Food spending
I've bee tracking our spending for a few months and was somewhat surprised that we (2 adults and 2 kids under 3) easily spend $1000 a month on groceries and eating out. Is this in line with others on Long Island?

We very rarely eat out and spend that. I shop sales and its just that everything has gotten so expensive.

Re: Food spending
I haven't added it up but I would imagine we're not too far off if you count everything from groceries to take out to daily coffees and snacks I buy when I'm at work.
And DH multiple daily trips to 7-11.
On average, I spend at least $200-$250.00 every weekend on "stuff" between groceries, trips to Target, etc. So yeah, that's close to $1000.

Re: Food spending
I easily spend $600-700 on groceries a month. And without a doubt $300-400 or so on eating out.

Yup...I didn't think I spend that much but between going to the grocery store, buying lunch a few times a week and those quick trips to the store for things it really adds up. You're not alone.

Re: Food spending
I need to look at this, but I know we spend too much. Grocery shopping has become very expensive.

Re: Food spending
I budget about $150 a week for us. Family of 5. But I only shop the sales and use coupons. I rarely go over that and we hardly get take out. Maybe 1x a month.

There's only two of us, but we budget $400 a month for groceries/meals out. Sometimes we go over that, but rarely.

Re: Food spending
We spend about $400-$500 a month on groceries. That doesn't include any eating out or extras.

Food spending
We spend about $1200 per month for a family of 4. but that includes groceries, household items like detergent, diapers for both kids, etc.. We pay for convenience since both DH and I work full time. I hope that will change this summer.

Food spending
We are a family of 3 and probably spend 600-700 a month at the grocery store. I'm working hard on cutting that down right now. We don't eat out and spend a few hundred more at target so that includes some food, household items, diapers, etc. I'm trying cut that down to more like 150 a month by only going once a month.

Re: Food spending
yes =(
there are only 3 of us, 2 adults and a toddler (under 2) and we rarely go out to eat. Maybe 1x a week, plus DH goes out 1-2 more times per week at work alone. But beyond those 3 times... everything is eaten at home. and the 2.5 of us... we eat about $1,000 worth of food a month!!! It's insane.
ETA: that's with me trying to budget- shopping sales, using coupons, etc. I can't seem to ever get our monthly total to be under $800. $800 is a good month. $1200 is the worst month. lol.

Re: Food spending
I spend $500 a week for me and 2 DDS who have big appetites. I try not to spend on packaged, processed foods. I bring all my food to work and make coffee at home. I try to shop in the outer aisles and inside for pasta, canned beans etc. I shop by unit price and also stopped going to target! I try to shop at CVS for toiletries when I have rewards.
We do take out 2x a month which is usually less than $20. My girls stay with their dad every other weekend and eat school lunch for $1.75 a day though.
