Jersey City for Work
Does anyone travel from Long Island to Penn Station (LIRR) then on the PATH Train to Jersey City???
Looking to see what it is like, and is it difficult? A PITA???
Thank you !

My friend did it and always complained about it, but I don't think it's much different commuting to penn and getting on a subway (I even had to transfer and take two subways).

I do. I take the LIRR, walk to the PATH and switch at Newport and my stop is Exchange Place. It is not a great commute. The PATH is not great. It runs often during rush hour but every 20-30 minutes off peak. I had to leave work early b/c DS was sick and it took me over 3 hrs to get home.
I honestly hate my commute but my company moved from the city to JC I didn't have a choice. The commute can be tough and draining.

Re: Jersey City for Work
My stop would be Newport - I'll get to work from home 3 days a week, so I only have to go in 2x a week -
how long is the ride from ny to Newport stop? I guess my train would get into Penn at 8:30, then have to do that walk - then the ride...
I need to give an answer tomorrow, I don't know what to do, I now go down to Canal Street -
THANK YOU

Re: Jersey City for Work
It is an annoying commute and I personally find JC a bit depressing. Since you would only be doing it twice a week, I think you would be ok. It's hard enough traveling into the city, I hate that so many companies have moved to JC

The walk from Penn to the PATH is about 10 minutes depending on the light to cross the street, foot traffic, how fast you walk, etc. The ride from 33rd street to Newport is about 20 minutes. The best part about your commute is you won't have to switch trains.
2Xs a wwk is a whole lot better than 5 days. Depnding on the perks, salary and benefits, for 2Xs/wk I would consider it.

I've worked there for 7 years. Honestly, it is the best area to work. There was a mall attached to my building & ZERO tourists to deal with. The waterfront is beautiful in the summertime. The PATH is very convenient - Just a 10 minute ride from 33rd in Midtown. FM me if you have any questions. I miss working there.

Re: Jersey City for Work
Is there a train that is convenient to Atlantic Terminal?
I work downtown and it is SO much more convenient to go to Brooklyn. Atlantic terminal has many subway lines and if you take the 4-5 or the 2-3 - it would be a short walk to the Path at WTC (probably the same or similar to the walk from Penn to the Path) and then fewer stops to get to JC.
The biggest benefit I find is that it is SO much less crowded and I always get a seat - even on the crazy days.

Re: Jersey City for Work
My husband does, his company moved to JC a few years ago along with a lot of companies. We live in Queens and he takes the express to the path so it isn't the same commute, I would compare it to having to work in Downtown time wise.
