Re: If you have health insurance through an employer, what do you pay monthly

Nothing for medical - and we are extremely grateful for that. Through DH's employer.

Dental is $72/mo. I thought that was high and then I looked at the insane amount of dental work my DH needs and what it would cost if we didn't have insurance. That's through my employer.

Vision I honestly don't even know if we have coverage. Chat Icon Definitely not through my employer; I don't know if it's part of DH's plan. Neither of us have ever had to use it (knock on wood).

About $300 per month for my sons and I. $840 deductible and 10% co-insurance. Does not include vision.

I think I win--$1733/ month family of 5, no vision, only kids' dental (I have discount plan for dental for DH and me). Chat Icon

But, I suppose it's complicated because DH owns the company (so also, we pay taxes on that $1700 as though we had it in our pockets...it's not a deduction).

I would think though, if you answer nothing or whatever it was, it's not entirely a free ride...you'd be getting paid more overall if you didn't need insurance...correct?

ETA...this is with no deductible. We are planning to switch carriers though which would save around $500/ month, but I think there's a small deductible then. DH can't wait for me to go back to work for this reason alone!

Don't forget that all the money you put into medical (that $1700 a month) is tax deductible for you and DH.

My DH and I pay nothing for medical because he owns the company, and the company pays for it. At the end of the year we ALSO can deduct the medical insurance premium off our taxes because we own the company.

We pay about 500 a month for medical on the basic/low level plan. I didn't realize there are so many jobs with free health insurance. What do jobs do you have with the free health insurance?

We pay $550 now for a family of 3. My DS is on my policy, my Husband is covered at 100% through his job. We are turning into a family plan when my new son is born and will pay close to $1k. It's awful. On top of that we have coinsurance, copays and a extremely ridiculous out of pocket max and deductible. I hate even talking about it, it makes me crazy but we both work for very small companies and have great perks ( I work from home FT and DH loves his job).

I don't know exactly but I believe its a little under $60 bi-weekly for medical, vision (glasses or contacts), & dental for just me. No deductible but the co-pays did increase this year for some things. The kids arent on my plan. I think it would go up to $100ish biweekly with them on.

(and it doesn't make sense - like you can get an eye doctor visit and contacts OR glasses every year - but they don't consider that someone who wears contacts needs a pair of glasses, too).

Contact lenses are a luxury. You don't NEED contact lenses, I guess unless you don't have ears or a nose to put glasses on. So they're not going to pay for both glasses AND contacts.

I guess, but I don't see it like that... personally I see much better with my contacts than my glasses and have better depth perception (even though the rx on my glasses is correct). My eyesight is also really bad, so I don't have peripheral vision when I wear my glasses, so I hate driving while wearing them. So, for me contacts are more of a necessity than a luxury.

This is me exactly.

Re: If you have health insurance through an employer, what do you pay monthly

I had no idea this was a thing. My husband owns an LLC and I'm self employed. We can get insurance through him and write off the premiums??? Does it work if we go through the marketplace or any private insurance?
