Newbie with some Questions
Hello,
I have been TTC for almost a year with no success. I am 32 and have a 3 year DD and it only took 4 months to conceive her. My Dr. wants me to see Dr. Hershlag And I wanted to get some feedback on him. Also, what kind of tests are done to detect what the problems are? I have a normal period but I am overweight.
Thank you!

Re: Newbie with some Questions
Wow....I could have written this exact intro myself...
First....Welcome...hopefully your stay on this board is short.
I just turned 33, have a 3y/o DS who was conceived on our 3rd month trying. Unfortunately, I have now been TTC for over 2.5 years... I too am overweight (very) but I was this same size with my DS so I call bull sh-it if someone tries to blame it solely on that!!
The first thing that they do is check blood work AMH levels- usually tells egg quality FSH, LH, Estrogen, Progesteron- All hormone levels to make sure you are in the normal range Clotting factors (usually done with a history of clotting issues DVTs, Miscarriages, Etc. They will generally do a sonogram to look at your ovaries, lining, etc.
DH will probably get a semen analysis done to basically rule him out...
From there they may decide to do what is called an HSG which would check the patency of your tubes...
from there they would probably monitor you for a cycle or so and have you start on medications (if that's the route you take) and do IUIs first depending on the findings of the tests.
Hope that helps...
Good Luck!

Re: Newbie with some Questions
It depends on your insurance. The RE's office should have someone who can explain to you what your insurance covers. Mine covered the diagnostic tests and would have covered IUI. Of course, with my luck, I wasn't a candidate for IUI and IVF was not covered.
Good luck!

Newbie with some Questions
LIJ takes many insurances but I would call your insurance company first to see what they cover and if you need prior approval for procedures. And if they tell you it covers everything ask to speak to a supervisor because that is typically not the case. I would recommend getting details in writing. LIJ also works with a company called Attain for IVF which provides an "insurance" type product to help provide guarantees if IVF doesn't work. We used Attain while trying IVF at LIJ and they were great to work with I would highly recommend taking a look at that if you have to do IVF with no insurance.

Re: Newbie with some Questions
My DH came with me for the first visit. We both had lots of questions. Also, DH had to have blood drawn to test for HIV, hepatitis, etc.
