Amazon Prime Membership Increasing

Anyone else also get the email from Amazon? I'm debating on dumping it once the increase goes into effect. Lately anything I want to order isn't "eligible for Prime" anyway.

I got the email. I'm not sure how I feel about this but I have some time to think about it since I'm not up for renewal until December. I feel like it's really useful when you have little ones, etc.

Amazon Prime Membership Increasing
I got the email too, luckily my membership was up for renewal Mar 6, so I still have until next Mar to decide. I don't know if I'll renew, $100 is a bit much. I rarely use any of the streaming services or borrow books for my kindle, but I do order most things I need from Amazon, especially around the holidays and for birthdays though.

I'm keeping it. It's well worth the $8.25 a month for the streaming and shipping for me. But I also don't have cable.

It's still totally worth it for us - we order a lot of things from Amazon, and I've shared my account with three other people. We also use the streaming service through Roku.

I read their announcement of the price increase in December, so now that its official - I am probably not renewing. I dont get many items from Amazon, only around Christmas time anyway. I can deal with longer shipping days..

Amazon Prime Membership Increasing
I'm torn about it. Most of the year I don't buy much from Amazon. Beginning around September I load up on stuff. My renewal isn't until January anyway. Does anyone know the waiting period that if you cancel and sign up again? Is it a year or 6 months?

Just curious if people think it is worth it now that there is a suit saying prime members paid more to cover shipping...say item was $10....$3 shipping. They were selling it to prime members for $13. (Just heard this from someone today.

I'm torn too. I think if they got rid of "add-on items" (which drive me CRAZY) for Prime members I'd renew in a heartbeat!

We are keeping ours for sure. We order so many things from there, it's worth it to save on shipping alone, plus I find their prices to be great on most items.

Personally, I always price compare and I still usually find Amazon to have the cheapest prices, especially once shipping costs are considered. All sites/stores have to inflate pricing somewhat.
ETA: And sometimes when it does cost a bit more at Amazon, I'll still order because I need it sooner, so it's still worth it to me. Especially because chances are that $3 shipping would take 5-6 business days or whatever "standard" shipping is.

It's a huge increase but I order SO much from them that the shipping would likely exceed what I pay with Prime, even with the increase. I doubt I'll be canceling, it's annoying it's so expensive now but I love their service.

Interesting thanks! Honestly I shop maybe 3-5 times a year on amazon and wait until I get free shipping so never got prime...or I go in with my mom on something to get the free shipping. I usually find the item for less elsewhere where I can use coupons but when I don't I get it from them. My DD got a kindle for Christmas and I was looking at prime for streaming, books and kids discount. Was curious if the above changed anyone's view. I probably won't do it with the increase bc the amount I use it probably doesn't justify the cost for us. I used them a lot years ago when I got diapers. But very rarely shop there now.

It's been 79 for ages, they've added the kindle books and streaming and price hasn't gone up.
It was inevitable and really it's not that much more.

I'm keeping. The cost is split with those I share with, like my dad, sister and friend. So the $99 is split by 4. Well worth it to me.

Just thought this was interesting- this calculates if Amazon Prime is worth it for you based solely on shipping costs. The account sharing and books/tv/movies are not factored in.
I played it safe and said 3/4 of my products were prime eligible (even though I think it was slightly more) and it worked out that I'd save about 60 cents per item in shipping with the Prime rate increase. I was saving about $1.00 before the increase. I'm embarassed to say how many things I ordered in 2013.

We plan on keeping it. I love their customer service; between that the quick shipping and streaming it's totally worth it.
