If you drink these things, aren't you worried they would sprout in your stomach?

The first time I drank chia fresca I wondered for a fleeting moment if I would be pissing plants later on....

Really, people drink these? Why?

I started drinking these a couple of weeks ago on my green smoothies (plus flax seeds) before hitting the gym. They have fiber, omega 3 and keep me fuller than just having the smoothie by itself.

Re: Help! I did something stupid (chia seeds down the drain)

I love chia seeds! Drink them, make pudding out of them, put them in smoothies, yogurt, and oatmeal.

I'm sure they went down my drain at some point. No chia pet yet!

Eta I am shocked how many people never heard of chia seeds!!!!!

Help! I did something stupid (chia seeds down the drain)

I eat them and they're in my drain all the time. How else do you wash the cup/glass etc? Of course they will get in your drain. What am I missing?

Funny that this thread is still going...I just came across a recipe for lactation cookies that has Chia seeds as an ingredient...

Do they sell them in a regular supermarket?

The first search I did for chia seeds in the drain showed they could sprout. I just wanted to see if anyone knew of a way to prevent that from happening.

I bought mine at Trader Joe's for $5 a bag, which was cheaper compared to what I've seen at regular supermarkets. But yes, they will have them there too.

They aren't organic at trader joes in case that's an issue for anyone. They sell them at any health food store and I think stop n shop

Really, people drink these? Why?

. They have amazing health benefits and expand in water.

Help! I did something stupid (chia seeds down the drain)

Do you chew them before you swallow them? Thinking of straight up swallowing seeds is making me want to gag.

This thread may be one to tank up there with super gluing Jesus.

That was my thought exactly! It's going to go down in LIF history.

I LOVE them. It's such a great sourc of protein too! Chia seeds in yogurt (left overnight) with some strawberries, toasted almonds and a maple syrup drizzle is my favorite breakfast

I'm really not sure what the big deal is.

Chia seeds have multiple known health benefits. I actually learned about them from this board. It's not as if I poured a bunch of rose seeds into my water. I made one of the most hydrating drinks you could put into your body.

I came home late & without much thought, dumped what was left down the drain. I had a moment where I thought maybe that wasn't the best idea, mostly because of the gel substance the chia seeds made in the water. So I googled it. And the first three posts were all pictures of sprouts growing up through the sink.

So I came here and asked if anyone would have any tips on how to possibly stop that before it got to that point. Do I really think an actual "chia pet" will grow in my sink? No. But I have seen the pictures of the sprouts & read not to dump the seeds down the drain.

It was an honest question. I'm not sure why there is the need for all of the rude comments that followed as a result.

Also, I am not a "troll" to stir up drama or trouble.

I joined this board a year ago with a different name and was fairly active on certain parts of this board. I made this name when I had a problem that I needed advice with, so I went into hiding. My computer saved the password to this account, and I didn't realize I had posted this under this name.

I don't think anyone was rude at all. I thought the topic was " light" and many people offered varying things they might do. Not a big deal. I wouldn't fret.Chat Icon

Not until the OP pulls the sprouting seed out of her rear end Chat Icon I am still cracking up at this post! No one means any harm but it's just really funny to think that a plant is capable of growing in a sink pipe Chat Icon

Exactly. I think it's all in jest. It's funny to think of a plant growing in your pipes.

In theory, like the Super Glue Jesus post we get where the question is coming from. However, in reality, it sounds really funny.

Don't take it personal, btw you intrigued my interest in these Chia seeds. Never heard of it before.

I poured leftover chia seeds soaked in water in my kitchen sink several times and haven't had any issues. Run some hot water to remove any seeds that are stuck in the pipes.

I soak them in water before using them and they plump up. They become so soft, you don't have to chew them.

Re: Help! I did something stupid (chia seeds down the drain)

I don't think anyone was being rude either. I kind of had a is this a serious thread reaction, but then again, I also know what chia seeds are.

For those that have asked, they sort of remind me of tapioca like in those Asian bubble drinks.

I've purchased at Stop and Shop but I think as they are getting more known, sometimes they are out of them.
