Are there ANY pet stores that deal with breeders and not puppy mills?
Not trying to start a debate or anything. I'm just curious if anyone knows of a pet store that gets their dogs from a breeder and not a puppy mill. Does a store like that exist?

No- even if they say they deal with legit breeders, they truly don't.
Legit breeders do not need a middle man! :)

No, and a responsible legit breeder will usually have a wait list and do background checks etc

Yes, I am looking into rescues, but I just worry about them being 100% correct on the breed. My son needs a non-shedding/hypoallergenic dog and I know sometimes at shelters/rescues they are not 100% of what breed the dogs are. I'm looking into a schnoodle that is looking for a home right now.

A schnoodle should work out great. If you are getting from a rescue, they should agree to take the dog back if there is an allergy. Also you can spend time with the dog to see if your child shows any allergies from the dog.

there is no guaranty that any dog will be 100% hypoallergenic.

Yes, I realize that. This is why I would have my son interact with the dog beforehand to observe his allergies.

Very smart.
I'm also not trying to ruffle feathers but backyard breeders who capitalize on trendy mixed breeds with cutesy names are also a risk.
If you are going to go the mixed breed route, much better to rescue an animal that was given up. Then you're not supporting unscrupulous business practices.
Are there no hypoallergenic purebreeds you could find from a reputable breeder? Goes without saying that saving a dog from the pound or rescue is best but I'm not against reputable breeders who are doing right by a breed. I thought poodles were a pretty safe bet - heard a lot of good things about Bichons.

Yes, there are hypoallergenic pure breeds. We've been looking into bichons, yorkies and malteses.
We actually went yesterday to see a 7 month old bichon puppy up for adoption and if the home visit goes well, he will become the newest member of our family.
He was given up by a woman in her 80s who thought that having a puppy would be a good idea.

Good luck to you, this sounds awesome! Just make sure if this is coming from a rescue that they have a clause that they would have to take the dog back if you should have an unknown allergy present itself. It's for your best interest and the dog's best interest. Good luck!!!! I think it would work out great for you if you are selected.

Yes, they will take back the dog if need be. I made sure of that
Trying not to get myself too excited, but I'm pretty sure we are the only ones who applied for him so far. He hasn't been "advertised" on their site yet, so he's sort of under the radar right now.
