Attempted Child Abduction yesterday
I had heard from a friend that her neighbors son was the victim of an attempted abduction while playing in his yard in Nesconset. A newer model gold audi with license plate handing off with a middle aged man and woman inside pulled up and stopped the car. The man got out, entered the side yard where the boy was playing. As he started to back up the man ran after him as his mother came out. They took off. This was confirmed today by the Suffolk Police as well as letters home and robocalls from local districts today. The car and people match the description in another attempt last week in Commack. Please keep an extra eye on your children and share this so others are aware.

i heard about this on facebook this morning. the license plate was upside down and barely hanging on so a number could not be retrieved.

This is horrifying!
I agree with MsSissy, this should be all over. There is nothing on news12 or newsday online. My guess is there are way too many parents who have no idea this is going on.

Yes scary and in my elementary school zone I live in. I saw on FB the the Smithtown school superintendent announced it yesturday.

This is a copy and paste of the robocall and subsequent email that we received in Smithtown Schools:
Good afternoon, this is Judith Elias, Superintendent of the Smithtown Schools, with an important message. Early last night, a middle-aged couple driving a Gold Audi approached the home of a Smithtown child who was playing in his yard in the Mills Pond Elementary School attendance area. The man from the car approached the child in the child’s yard. The man abruptly left when the child’s mother came outside. The child is safe.
Police were notified and are investigating the incident. The district has increased security at the elementary schools.
Please be aware of this suspicious incident and discuss with your children the importance of safe behavior around strangers, including reporting behavior that makes them uncomfortable.

Attempted Child Abduction yesterday
I just read this on the commack Patch :
Copied story from the patch:
Police do not believe incident Thursday was an attempted abduction.
A Nesconset mother says her 9-year-old son was approached by a man in the yard of their home on Browns Road Thursday afternoon.
The boy was playing in the back yard when he saw a vehicle parked near the home and became suspicious of it at 4:45 p.m., police said.
The mother posted on Facebook that a middle-aged couple were inside the vehicle–described as a gold Audi–with a woman behind the wheel.
"The man approached my son 9 year old son from the back walked right on to my property said nothing to him and started power walking towards him," the mother wrote. "My son ran into the house. I came out and the man looked at me got in the car and the two of them sped off."
Police were called to the scene, but a police spokesperson told Patch Saturday that "the responding officer was not told that the man walked toward the boy or attempted to communicate with him."
Police said detectives were speaking with the mother and child again on Saturday, "but at this point, we have no reason to believe that this was an attempted abduction."
Smithtown schools Interim Superintendent Judith Elias notified parents of the incident on Friday and said security was being heightened at the district's elementary schools.

No it's the same incident- the article is incorrect. It's is off of Browns in Nesconset. The Mom posted on FB (she's not my FB friend we are in different elem) but the post spread like wildfire and included her road.

You should really delete her exact street. She posted that on a private board (Im friends with her one of her neighbors). Im sure the Patch just gave an approximation of the area for that reason and called it browns Rd.

I deleted it at your request. I live nearby as well, not looking to make anyone mad. Just an FYI, her post in the private group was copied and shared by tons of people in the area. Same thing happened last week with the bus driver post from the group. People aren't treating the group as private. Her street name is all over those re-shares. Sorry

And sorry I asked where. I was just trying to get an idea of where this happened since all I can find is VERY limited information. Smithtown school district is a big enough area, as is Nesconset. Turns out, I walk a lot in this actual area and also have family and friends here who could be affected. Thank you to the previous poster for trying to help me out and answer my question. Not looking to cause problems for anyone though, including previous poster. I figured that information was out there on message boards and spread throughout the Internet as these things usually do. Sorry .

Thanks, just better safe than sorry, you know? Didn't make anyone mad ;).
Her post actually said Nesconset around 5, the location was posted later in the comments. I think people then added it and that is how it was shared. Her OP didn't give her street address. This just has much broader audience, you know. Just never know who is looking and I would hate for my address to be posted on here if my son was just almost kidnapped, nothing personal
