Did my first half
So I did the michelob ultra half last week on Saturday. I didn't complete the half under my goal time but I did PR. By far the most mental challenge I have ever done in my life. I mentally got into a negative place... that was more painful than the physical part of the race. I ended up with calves cramping after I finished. Laid out on the floor and saved by a complete stranger. After all that... I want to do the LI half!
I felt sore Sunday, barely sore Monday, fine Tuesday, and ran 2.25 miles on Wednesday. I felt fine the rest of the week. I want to run Sunday but not sure how much? Do I start backwards from the Hal Higdon plan I was using for my first half? I think I am 6/7 weeks from the LI half. Any tips to avoid the mental fatigue?

Congrats! That's a great accomplishment! I did a half a few years ago. Never again. Lol. It just wasn't my thing.
Did you have a play list to keep you motivated? Or maybe come up with a mantra to keep you focused.

Congratulations!!!! Wonderful accomplishment.
What's great about a half is there is not much recovery needed. You can really go back to what you were doing when you feel ready. The reverse "taper" and working backwards to the hal Higdon training is really for marathons.
Good luck!

I've been using pandora one which can be distracting when I hear a song that isn't fast enough. I do slow down when that happens and I've noticed I get flustered trying to change the song. It was bearable during the long runs but I can't do this for a half again.
I don't have a mantra. The moments I thought of quitting I thought of my family. That's what kept me going to finish.

Okay thanks! I have so much going on this week I couldn't run this morning. I'm going to start tomorrow. I'm very excited about running 9 miles in FL on Saturday. I just have to map it.
