So now that my first half marathon is completed...

I have major Marathon Fever!

A full marathon was never a goal of mine because I thought I could never do it, knee-related. I've had knee pain ever since hurting my knee in high school LAX. And when I run my long runs (over 9 miles) i get a lot of knee, ankle, and hip pain. Weak joints!!

But the Half came pretty easy for me.
And now I'm thinking... I am already halfway there.
I think I want to go for it.

Definitely go for it! If you hate it and it's too painful you never have to do it again, but at least you'll be able to say you did one! Good luck Chat Icon

Do it. IT was the most amazing experience of my life. There is nothing like crossing the finish line after 26.2 miles knowing what you've just done.

To reach the finish line in a marathon is to enter an elite group: only about one-tenth of 1 percent of the population does it

I did a few halfs and then my full and thought okay marathon fever over, check that off "the list" but now I am 27 days away from marathon number 2! MCM here I come!

At my last marathon, DH was cheering at mile 25. He said so many people said "never again" His response to them (from experience with me): "that's what they all say!"

My last marathon I only went about 4 hours before talking about the next one!

I am a turtle. I was fine the first 6 or so miles. On pace to finish around 2:40 or so. At mile 9 my calf cramped up and I couldnt run anymore. I walked the last 4 miles and finished 3:17 .. but I finished and it felt awesome!!!

Seriously, time doesnt matter on your first one :)

DO IT! The feeling crossing that finish line is amazing!

I trained for 10 weeks. Did my own thing but it was similar to Hal Hidgon's program. I did one 3-4 mile run, one 4-6 mile run, and one long run per week. The long run I started at 5, then 6, then 7, then 8, then 9, then 10, then 11, then I hurt my achilles so went down to 8, then 10, then the half marathon. I did walking or elliptical on off days, if i felt like it.

Honestly, it was a lot easier than I was expecting. If you train for the distance you will be fine. I did 3 runs of 10+miles and that made me well prepared.

Good luck and let us now how it goes!!

You girls are seriously giving me some motivation! I'm going to be running my first 5k next month (and hopefully a few more) but I'm pumped to go for even longer! I can walk/jog 10 miles now but I can certainly see myself going for a half marathon sometime next year!

Re: So now that my first half marathon is completed...

Running races becomes addicting. From some unknown reason I went straight for the marathon and the NYC marathon in 2007 was my first and I thought I would never do it again! But I've done the Philly marathon and the NYC again. Last years NYC marathon changed my life. My husband and dad are running this year and I am super excited to be a spectator. There is nothing in the world like it.

Anyway, I love the half marathon cause it doesn't beat you up the way a full marathon does.

I am thinking of trying to do smaller races now and improve my speed.

Julie, you will have to help motivate me after I am done being pregnant.... I want to run a half under 2 hr... my best is just about 2 hours flat.

cross your fingers for me. I'm doing the Philly HM after 12 weeks pp,. it's hard to get back, but doable.

I did 10Ks (slow) 12weeks after my first two kids, so this is a new challenge!

I'm doing my next full ~6 months pp

Is the half marathon in march the suffolk county half?? I did that one this year.... its really boring but pretty flat and easy! I was kind of hoping I would be ready to run a half by then... to soon?

Otherwise I would do the LI half in may... I did that one 2 years ago. Fun time!!
