East Islip Thoughts
Thinking of buying a home in East Islip, just north of Main Street. Ive been reading everything that I can find on East Islip, and it seems that most people seem to like it, but theres not much on WHY. If you live in EI, do you like it? dislike it? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!

Nice area. Good schools. Close to stores and major highways, close to good restaurants. Very family oriented. Prices on homes range from affordable to multimillion homes. Honestly one of my favorite areas.

Awesome. Thanks!
Is ALL of East Islip a "nice" area, or would you recommend to stay away from any particular area? Thanks!

Generally, most people like to stay south of Montauk Highway.
But I live north, near Sunrise and it's not so bad. People think it has a bad rep because it's closer to Central Islip, but I haven't had any problems and my neighbors are great.

We are in Islip terrace, but East Islip SD. Search by East Islip SD. All areas are good. It's a small town. Schools are good. We based our home search on SD and ended up finding a house we loved here.

That's where we are and I find that the homes by me are nicer then some south of sunrise. South of Montauk hwy/main st will be brutal with flood ins. On top of $11,000 plus taxes/yr we could never do it.

Thanks all! The home that we are interested in is between Montauk and Sunrise. We did drive around below Montauk and it really was quite pretty, but yes taxes look crazy and even the home prices are out of our range. Its nice to hear nice things about the area. Thanks all!

Re: East Islip Thoughts
We live south of Montauk Highway and love it. Our taxes aren't super high, and we're lucky that even though we are south of Montauk we are not in a flood zone.
We chose EI for the school district, relatively stable resale value, proximity to highways and parks, etc. We love that anytime we go up to Jackson Hall or the Beach Tree, we end up seeing people we know. It's a very friendly neighborhood.

Re: East Islip Thoughts
Grew up in EI and my parents still live there. Love it, great schools, great place to grow up. That being said, Main Street is becoming depressing... so many businesses closing, so many buildings desperately needing a facelift, I get a little bit sad about it every time I go home. Knowing what people in EI pay for homes and taxes it's shocking that they don't make a bigger deal about their main street looking better (like Islip's, adorable!)

East Islip Thoughts
I have lived in East Islip all my life. Very nice area to raise kids, great people, very big into soccer, lacrosse, football. I second the thoughts about Jackson Hall and Beachtree - great neighborhood places!!
In the Fall, the elementary schools are adapting the Princeton Plan where there are 2 elementary schools are the north side of montauk - one will have K-2 and one will have 3-5 and the same goes for the 2 elementary schools on the south side. One will have PreK-2 and the other 3-5. There are also great nursery schools in the area.

Wonderful auction house there, South Bay. I've gotten lots of great things over the years. Always interesting to walk through before an auction.
