Sleeping on the belly??
My 6 week old baby has reflux and often cannot sleep on his back. I find he is so much more comfortable and sleeps much longer when on his belly. Of course I'm aware of the whole "back is best" campaign which makes me so nervous to let him sleep on his back....but I see how much happier he is that way. I should note he can lift his head fully and move it from facing one side to the other. What should I do? Is it okay to let him belly sleep at this point?

Re: Sleeping on the belly??
My girls would only sleep on their belly. From early on around 7-8wks I let both sleep that way. I started putting them belly down for their naps so I could watch over them. Then gradually transitioned to night time and they slept much longer stretches. A lot of ppl are against it but it definitely worked for us.

Sleeping on the belly??
Have you tried letting him sleep in a rock n play? The incline would help

Re: Sleeping on the belly??
My dd has been a belly sleeper since 10 weeks old. Our ped told us to flip her since she wouldn't sleep on her back.

Yes! My first DS also had reflux and the R&P was a godsend. But my DS2 often fusses or cries in it and the swing. His reflux is much worse and he is in pain. I do my best to get him to sleep on his best (inclined) but he honestly just prefers his belly.

I know there is so much controversy over belly sleeping....I just love that he is more comfortable but I barely sleep because I'm so nervous over it though.

Re: Sleeping on the belly??
DD also has reflux and loves sleeping on her belly. But I'm paranoid and only let her nap on her belly until she can roll over. Instead, we've put her crib mattress on an incline to account for the reflux at night. She's been sleeping in her crib since she came home and does great.

Sleeping on the belly??
My nephew was a belly sleeper since 4 weeks because of reflux and honestly my dd has been since 8 weeks or so. She sleeps great so I never pushed the back on her. I just checked her throughout the night.

My baby has been sleeping on her belly for months now and started around the same age as your LO. Go with your mommy instincts and do whatever you think is best. We all grew up sleeping on our bellies and are just fine (and with nice round heads! LOL)

Thank you all for the replies. You all have made my decision to let him belly sleep at such a little age so much easier. I'm still nervous and check on him constantly, but it seriously makes me feel better to see that he isn't so uncomfortable and is sleeping better because of it. I truly appreciate the responses and support at putting my fears to rest!

Not what you want to hear I'm sure, but the safest thing is for baby to sleep on their back until they can roll to belly themselves. Not a risk I was ever willing to take. He will learn to sleep on his back if that's all he's allowed to do.

Actually "some of us" didn't end up fine, hence the recommendation of sleeping on the back. There has been extensive research, and back is best. I personally would prop the mattress. I would not be comfortable letting my 6 week old sleep on their belly.
