Infant Car Seat Question - Maybe You Moms Can Help

I am on bedrest with contractions, and guess I am overanalyzing things with all this free time, so thanks in advance for any advice.

We registered for (and received) the Maxi Cosi Mico AP. I was looking for a lighter car seat (it weights only 8.6 lbs). Compared to other car seats, this only holds babies to 22 lbs. However, I can't really envision myself carrying much more than 30 lbs around anyway, so was okay with that.

Other friends have suggested I consider the Nuna Pipa (not a lot of reviews on here for that seat). This is even lighter - 7.7 lbs, and can hold babies up to 32 lbs.

Now the Cybex Aton 2 (similar style to Nuna Pipa, and cheaper) just came out with very high ratings. It weights 9 lbs and holds babies up to 35 lbs.

I think Cybex Aton 2 and Maxi Cosi Mico AP are same price, Nuna Pipa is more.

What would you do?

I'd stick with your original choice... You won't notice a 1lb difference In weight... And believe me, you'll end up switching over to convertible seat way before they hit 30lbs... It's just too heavy to carry!

Thank you - that's what a few of my friends have said, same reason. I won't want to be carrying that much around.

I think you're fine with what you have. Most infants are nowhere near 30 pounds when they switch out of the infant seat. DD didn't even hit 22 pounds until she was over 15 months old!

This exactly. DS is under 25 lbs and I couldn't imagine carrying him in a 10 lb carrier. He's been in a convertible for months. Plus, it's much more comfortable for them as they get bigger.

By th time the baby's around 15 pounds you probably won't carry it around anymore anyways (I just kept the seat in my car and took dd in and out) and you will eventually get a convertible seat for more comfort way before the weight limit, so stick to your original choice.

I agree, stick with your original. My first infant seat for DDs only went up to 22lbs. I switched them out of it before they got to that weight because it was just too much to carry.

You wont use it til 22 lbs b/c it will be like carrying around 30 lbs. Most people go into a convertible before 22 lbs. My girls were 19 lbs and I had stopped taking the seat out of the car to carry around 17. Keep what you have and don't give yourself more work.
