booster seat - 5 yr old
Just curious, what is your 5 yr old in? Right now my LO is 5yr old and 44lbs. I have her in a highback booster seat in my truck. I bought 2 regular booster seats for my DH's car and my MIL's car. But now I'm thinking that isn't the safest way to go. Can someone who's been there done that let me know what the safest is or if there's a website to help me figure it out. TIA

Re: booster seat - 5 yr old
DS is 5 and 40 pounds. I still have him in a 5 point harness car seat. I feel that's safest. Not sure what website to look at but I'm sure if you google it you can find something or I'm sure someone can chime it with a helpful website.

Re: booster seat - 5 yr old
I was thinking the 5 point harness is still the safest, but I think the car seat that DH and MIL have only go up to 40lbs so I need to buy something again.

Re: booster seat - 5 yr old
That's actually why I switched DS from his old carseat. It only went up to 40 pounds. I now use a graco (argos I think) and I forget the weight limit but it does switch to a high back booster and then a regular booster.

booster seat - 5 yr old
The Graco Nautilus and Argos are essentially the same seat. The Argos has a no rethread harness and the Nautilus has a traditional slotted harness. The Argos harnesses to 70 pounds the Nautilus 65. They both change to a high back booster and then a no back booster and last up to 100 pounds. It will be the last seat you need.
It is definitely safer for him to ride in a 5 point harness. At that age and weight the belt fit might still not be correct which could cause internal injuries in the event of an accident.

I agree keep him in a 5pt as long as you can. The argos is awesome ad I highly suggest it. Plus it goes from 5pt to high back to no back booster. You will never need another seat at his age.

Re: booster seat - 5 yr old
My DD was in a 5-pt harness seat until about 7.5yrs old. I tried her in the high back booster when she was 6, but she didn't sit nicely in it so I took it away from her. Now, she is in the high back booster in my car, and the regular backless booster in DH's car (mainly b/c of lack of space for the back on the booster in his car).

Re: booster seat - 5 yr old
My now 6yo went in to a high back booster last year. WE have hte Graco Turbo booser. I have no issues with it. He sits fine and knows all the rules...
He is now 6yo and probably close to 60lbs.

We have the Evenflo SecureKid seats in both of our cars. My mom has the Graco Argos for DS in her car
It was important for me that he was/is still in the 5pt harness but that the seat converted to a high back booster and then a regular booster. I don't want to buy anymore seats!
