When did your child go into the booster seat? How old and I guess weight?
G is 3 yrs and about 33 lbs. Should I be thinking about a booster seat for the car?

DD is 5, still in her Britax Marathon in my car.
We have a Graco - HighBack Turbo Booster Car Seat for her to use in other cars...we only just started putting her in it a few months ago as a back up seat.

Re: When did your child go into the booster seat? How old and I guess weight?
DS is almost 5 and we're moving him to the Graco high back booster. He's 48lbs, and 46" or something, big for his age. We're moving from the Nautilus because the staps don't fit his shoulders, although it says it goes up to 100lbs.
I wouldn't move a 3yo into a booster just yet.... Maybe try a Eddie Bauer 3in1 or the graco Nautilus.

Nope you really shouldn't be. 5 point harness is the safest for now

Re: When did your child go into the booster seat? How old and I guess weight?
DS went in a booster seat on his 6th b-day. DD is 5, and she'll be in her car seat longer than that, since she's smaller than her brother was.

DS is 3, 40 pounds, 40". In a regular seatbelt booster in grandma's car, in my car its a 5 point harness booster.

I'm pretty sure that most boosters start at 40 lbs

IMO...No...Too young...A five point harness is still the best protection. You can buy a booster that has a harness and use it that way until he is bigger then make it a booster...

I'm waiting until she out grows or out weighs her carseat. Seeing as it goes up to 70lbs I don't think it will be anytime soon.

Will's 35 lbs, but I plan on using his Britax til he maxes out the weight (I think 40 lbs?) and then switch to a high back turbo booster.

Re: When did your child go into the booster seat? How old and I guess weight?
DSs were ~4.5 when they went to a high back booster (they are also 95+% in height)
30 pounds and 30" is min for a high back booster (my kids hit this by 2.5, but we still waited)
40 pounds and 40" for a regular booster (we just switched DS#1 into a reg booster at 6+ since his younger brother got the high back)

No, definitely not. Stay in 5-pt harness for as long as you can.
DD is 4 y/o, 42 lbs and 44 in. She'll be in her Graco Nautilus 5-pt harness for at LEAST another year.

Re: When did your child go into the booster seat? How old and I guess weight?
4 and 40 is a bare minimum.
Most children are not mature enough to go into a booster at 4 though. They have to be able to sit still, follow instructions, stay in position the entire ride.
It also needs to fit them properly, which a belt with booster doesn't for many younger children. The shoulder part needs to come across their shoulder bone not their neck and not under their arm or behind their back etc. The lap belt must sit low on the hips/top of thighs, not on the abdomen. The legs must bend at the knee at the edge of the booster while the child's back is up against the seat back.
I usually recommend booster training with a high back booster at about age 5 depending on maturity. This is where you put a booster in for shore 5-10 minute rides so they can learn to sit properly in it. Other than that, harnessing as long as you can is always safest. Every progression you make with car seats is a step down in safety.

What would you recommend I put my son in? He will be 3.5 years old in September but already weighs 50 lbs so he is at the weight limit for the convertible seat. Would appreciate a recommendation. Thank you!

Re: When did your child go into the booster seat? How old and I guess weight?
THey have convertible boosters that go up to 65 pounds - with a 5 point harness.
I told DS if he gets out of his seat (arms/belt/whatever) he gets a double time out - no warnings. The seat is in my mom's car so he's not in it much - but each time we warn him.

Re: When did your child go into the booster seat? How old and I guess weight?
Best bet is to look at the Nautilus or Frontier
Go in the store and try him in them. Budget will factor in for you. They both have similar harness heights, but if he is just a solid kid that doesn't have a long torso, you may be better off with a Frontier since it goes to 85lbs. If he is long torsoed and solid, you may be better off with the Nautilus since he may reach the height limit prior to the weight....

I was just looking online at the Graco Nautilus 3-in-1. I guess that's where we are heading now
Does anyone have the Nautilus? Is it big and wide like a convertible car seat?

He has a long torso so it looks like we will go with the Nautilus. THANK YOU VERY MUCH

Me too. My boys are 2 3/4 and are in their Marathons. We just moved up the straps to the last setting so after that I guess I will be using a 5 point booster if there are any. They are happy and safe so that is good for me. They weigh 32 and 35 lbs.

Wow, 50 lbs! He's like a 5 year old!!
E is in the Graco Nautilus, it's great. Very comfy, very secure and it has a cup holder and little storage things in the arms that fit little toys. She loves it.

(52 lbs but I rounded DOWN ). His feet where just dangling down the convertible seat so it was time to part with it. Excited to get the Nautilus - can't wait for it to come in

My kids were 4.5. Both are tall and met the weight limit as well.
