Talk to me about going from brunette to Blonde

I am thinking about a major change. The most drastic thing I have ever done was go a violet red and I loved it but, since I moved to Florida, I think I would like to try and be a blonde. I have always kind of wanted to try it and never did. Some say it totally damages the hair.

What are your thoughts? Do you like being blonde? how many times do you need a touch up or is it bleach?

i love being blonde.. i go through various stages of it... lowlights, dark underneath, more blonde, etc.

i say got for it! but it is a commitment. depending on how dark your normal hair is will determine how often you go. i personally leave a lot of dark within my hair so my roots dont stand out as much, but it depends on your taste. have fun with it!

I was blonde for a few yrs.... Don't do it. My hair was so fried. Get highlights and if u really want to go blonde, keep going for more until you're totally blonde. I really don't recommend it. I have dark brown hair and had to touch up my roots every 3 weeks and it hardly ever matched. Looking back at pics, I just shake my head in horror lol

Did you consider doing ombré? This way you don't really have to worry about the upkeep and it looks really nice when well done

It does destroy your hair. Anything that lifts color is very damaging and even thins it out. Not to mention the maintenence is killer. ...constant roots.

Ita! Try the highlights first.

Talk to me about going from brunette to Blonde

I just did the opposite. I was blonde for 15 years and just went to a rich chestnut with honey highlights.
Not only does my hair look good, it's so much healthier, very shiny. Blonde and bleaching even with highlights just kills your hair, so dry and brittle. And its alot of maintenance.
If you really want to, I'd suggest doing blonde highlights gradually

I agree with trying highlights first. Going all blonde is a drastic change and a ridiculous amount of upkeep. (And of course expensive)
Highlights can really change your whole look.

Re: Talk to me about going from brunette to Blonde

I am really a brunette and have been coloring my hair blonde for years. I say go for it. I LOVE change! I went back to brown for a period of time then back to blonde. I have thick hair and usually is soft, but recently I feel like it's been blah. I think it's also about how you style it. I don't always blowdry it and hardly ever flat iron. I use good shampoos and try and let it air dry on weekdays when I don't need to be done up. I think it can do some damage, but it's really on how you treat your hair. If it's always heated then yes it will make it worse. If you don't like it then go back!

Destroyed my hair! I loved the idea of highlights, did them then I took it way too far.

Re: Talk to me about going from brunette to Blonde

I bounce between blonde and brunette all the time. My hair is naturally very dark brown.

I agree with the other posters who suggested highlights. I actually dye my base color a lighter brown and then put highlights through out, each time I do a 'touch-up' we add more blonde in. If you go from brown to blonde in one shot, you're going to have a ton of breakage.

I prefer myself blonde but it does damage your hair. I just took a year off from being blonde to let my hair recuperate a bit.
