Making your own baby food
So far my DS has liked pureed mango and pureed banana. He gagged on avocado and vomited on pureed carrot mixed with sweet potato. Any suggestions on what to try next? I prefer to make my own. TIA

Re: Making your own baby food
I've been giving DS steamed ucchini and yellow squash. He also was really digging broccoli last night. I steam or bake apples for him and pears. He liked avocado, but it seemed like he was very constipated after that (and the bananas) - could have been a coincidence but we haven't tried again because he was so upset.

Anything! I loved going to whole foods and seeing what was fresh/seasonal and just making that for the kids.
We typically would do carrots, zucchini, apple, pear, sweet potato every week and then try other different things depending on season.

Making your own baby food
For veggies, I used to make carrots, broccoli, sweet potato, peas and butternut squash. For fruits, I made apples, pears, bananas, mango, blueberries and strawberries.

My DD threw up avocados too, twice.
She loves sweet potatoes and butternut squash. I mix sweet potatoes with things she doesn't like.

Butternut or winter squash would be my suggestion.

Making your own baby food
I did a lot of butternut squash, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, all of the zucchinis and squashes, beans, peas and cauliflower. My girls still hate broccoli!

I made my own food too. I got these two books - Top 100 Baby purees and The Best Homemade Baby Food on the Planet. I found those helpful. Also I believe it was wholesomebabyfood.com that gave a list of things you could introduce by months. That was really helpful too.

He is 6 months. We started a few weeks ago and did mango for a week, banana for a week, applesauce for a week. The avocado and carrot/sweet potato was a one time thing. He doesn't seem that into food. Maybe as he grows...

Re: Making your own baby food
I used to make my own too, i would look at regular baby food in jars to get ideas and make combinations. Like apple/prune, sweet potato/apple, banana/strawberry/peach, apple/blueberry, broccoli/cauliflower/cheese, I used to thin with evoo, butter (tiny bit to taste), cinnamon with the sweet potatoes or apples. Wholesomebabyfood.com was great in telling me to introduce what and when.

same here! i found that spinach alone was too dense - adding apples really helped with the consistency and added just the right amount of sweetness. this became a staple.
i made all of my own babyfood and as pp said, try anything! apples, pears, peaches, sweet potatoes, cauliflower, peas and zucchini were also staples. zucchini is be very watery so i started mixing it with quinoa (that i cooked in broth for extra flavor) and ds loved it!
i found making baby food to be almost therapeutic and it was way easier than i thought it would be.
GL!
