What I learned from FB buy/sell groups.
There are a LOT of people with God-awful taste on Long Island.
There are a LOT of people who think their junk is worth top dollar.
There are some really random people who take the time out of their day to post things like a 5lb bag of oat bran for sale, a bag of tampons for free, or heavily used candles for $1 each.

The market for used undergarments is huge, too.
Also.
I think LI has the greatest concentration of Formica furniture in the US.

What I learned from FB buy/sell groups.
The worst one I ever saw one time was a used storm door. All dinged up and scratched and it said "sells new at Home Depot for $275, selling for $150, just needs a fresh coat of paint" I had to wonder if it's a joke, cause that's scary...

Re: What I learned from FB buy/sell groups.
I had seen a mattress set for sale. The ad said "purchased for $500 1 yr ago. Selling for $450".
Really! So for $50 more I can go and buy a brand new bed? OK...yeah I'll buy your used one instead.
I don't understand people.

What I learned from FB buy/sell groups.
I used to be addicted to all the groups but rarely look anymore because of the crap people post and the ridiculous prices they ask.

I never realized you can sell/ buy used furniture for 3k. For 3k my furniture needs to be brand spanking new. I also love when people sell couches for 300 and talk about rips or tears....throw it out or give away.

Re: What I learned from FB buy/sell groups.
I'm not part of those groups but once in awhile I see people post stuff on some other FB groups I'm part of and I'm like really? You want that much for used toys?
I am a firm believer in just donating stuff to people who can really use it instead of trying to make a buck.
I'm so glad I found out about BBBSLI.
I think they also sell the stuff to Savers, and while I haven't been there myself, I know moms on a budget shop there so it makes me feel good to know that clothes I barely wore went to good use.
I also just gave a big bag of summer boys clothes to a family member so she doesn't have to purchase for her son now.
That's more of a win to me.

What I learned from FB buy/sell groups.
I enjoyed a listing for a hideous patterned couch that was clearly from the 80's... said something like paid 1800, asking 900. Um, what you paid In 1987 is irrelevant! !!

I think it really depends on the furniture. Some furniture is like 20k when new so buying it for 3k is a bargain. Also, certain vintage pieces are more expensive than new furniture. For instance a vintage Eames lounge chair costs $$$$.
