Central air

How much does is cost approximately to install? I don't know the square footage of the house, but is say it's "average" sized with 2 stories and 3 bedrooms.

Re: Central air

It depends on if you have ductwork. If not it's around $12,000. If you have ducts, it can be just $6-7000.

Re: Central air

With no ducts you're looking at around $10,000 or a little over that.

My ILs already had the heating ducts and it cost them $5500.

Re: Central air

You need to get a few estimates. We had the duct work and were just replacing the unit and moving it from one side of the house to another. We got 3 estimates, they literally ranged from $6K to $12K....remember we HAD the duct work!

Anyway, my friends who have had it recently installed paid $9-10K for the whole install including ductwork.

Central air

I've gotten insane estimates because we have a cape and apparently that makes it harder. Someone quoted me almost $20k!!!!

Re: Central air

Have you looked into ductless AC? Not sure how prices compare to ducts but it might be worth looking into.

Central air

We have a traditional Cape - 2 BR upstairs and no bathroom. The CAC companies said they won't touch it and recommended ductless instead. They said it's bc they have no way to get ducts to the front of the house. We don't like ductless - not fans of the units on the walls.

We are going to dormer this summer, so we'll have CAC installed then. It will be around $10k to put in CAC.

Give Scarpelli Mechanical a call. They just did my cape, and we also were doing a reno at the time. They were very professional and did an amazing job for a great price.
