Laundry - Kitchen or Bedroom level?

Which is best?

We are looking for a new home and deciding where to locate laundry. Right now I have a split with it in the basement- its awful. We have a 4 year old and are expecting twins so I will have lots of laundry to do.

Best to have it on bedroom level where the laundy is - but then you need to go up to do it. OR kitchen level but then you need to bring laundry down. Thoughts? Experience?

we have a split and have it on the "den" level which is just a few steps down from the kitchen. I don't know where we'd put it on the "bedroom" levels.

Its kind of in the middle.

Yeah, to clarify, I'd put it upstairs by the bedrooms if you have room to build a closet or area for it, but if it would have to be in a bedroom or bath, then I'd put it somewhere else.

Sometimes people have a "mudroom" area on the main level (off of a kitchen) or on the den level of a split, leading out to the garage. That's also a good spot for the laundry.

But avoid putting it IN a room (like in the kitchen or in a bathroom).

I have it in my mudroom right off the kitchen. If we had the option to move it upstairs I wouldn't. I have two toddlers and I feel like I get more wash done having it the same level as the playroom. I throw in a load and fold it on the kitchen table in piles while watching them. I feel like if it was upstairs I'd never get it done or I'd have to unload it and then quickly throw it on my bed unfolded so I could run downstairs and make sure they aren't beating each other up or getting into things they shouldn't be.

We have it in our master and it makes life so much easier, all the bedrooms are on that level so there is no carrying baskets of laundry up or down.

I actually have mine in my Kitchen. Def not ideal but we don't have a basement and there is no where else to put it. My entire neighborhood is like this.

But I do have to say I have grown to like it. I get laundry done while doing a million and one other things. I spend 90% of my day on the first floor and if it was upstairs I would be running all day long.

We put our laundry room on the first floor purposely instead of the second level because I am on the first floor during the day. I didn't want to be running up and down the stairs to switch laundry and forget about it. I love it on the first floor.

yeah, as convenient as it is to be on the bedroom level, i find the level where you spend the bulk of your day as the main level then you are leaving the kids down stairs to do laundry...

I think it's most convenient if it's on the bedroom level (IF all of youri bedrooms are upstairs) However, for ME personally, I'd like it on the main level - and I'd have a GINORMOUS drain installed b/c my basement has flooded one too many times
I'd be a nervous wreck if it was on the top floor of the house w/ the potential to ruin significantly more god forbid of a flood

We are in the same boat, i have almost 3 year old twins and a 1 year old. laudry never ends. here is my issue with it being on the bedroom level. someone is always napping or sleeping or trying to sleep. so if it is at all noisy, that is a PIA. Also, if it leaks, floods etc it is a majorrrrr PIA. but is so much more convenient. and the naps are only temporary. I would prefer main level.

You couldn't pay me to put a washing machine upstairs. My mother, father, grandmother, DH mother and grandmother have ALL had some type of washing machine leak in their many years of home ownership. My grandmother had a major issue selling her house because of water damage from a leak 30 years prior. We had a bunch of leaks and one flooded our basement 3 inches because we didn't know about it for hours. Had our washer been upstairs our home would've been destroyed.

bedroom! Thats where the close are and where there going back to, much less hauling!

I would say the bedroom level if you can...to me it just makes the most sense for you to have it closest to the place where the laundry goes after it's done
