Short term disability?
My best friend broke her foot last week. She is out of work for 3-4 weeks. It DIDN'T happen at work. She is a single mom with no child support. She is right now using her sick days but they are going to run out. Is there a way to get short term disability? Or some type of help.

Short term disability?
She needs to contact her HR Dept at work. They will have the paperwork she and her Dr need to fill out for FMLA and short term disability.

Re: Short term disability?
What PP said.
From what I understand though, it can take at least that much time to get the checks, if not more.
This could be a long shot but is there a way work could temporarily revise her duties? Work from home?
My old job did this when I was out on "maternity leave" and I was still able to collect a paycheck and keep my benefits in place.
ETA: she may even qualify for transportation resources if driving to and from work is an issue. Hitesite.org is a good place to go to look for resources.

Re: Short term disability?
What does she do that she can't work with a broken foot? Can they modify her duties?
If her company offers STD she has to contact HR.
Hope she feels better soon!

Re: Short term disability?
You usually have to pay into STD-so even if her company offers it, she may not have it.
If she doesn't then she can get disability from NYS (if she's in NY) and she'll get $170/week.
