When did you change to fwd facing?
When did you change your car seat to fwd facing? 2 years? Or at the height/weight min for rear facing?

Re: When did you change to fwd facing?
I just switched my boys at exactly 2. The main reason I did it was because the recent spate of parents' leaving their kids in the car on hot days has me so bugged out. I've never even come close to forgetting them (and not like they would let me!) but those stories are so disturbing I switched them so I could at least see them in the rear view. There actually has been an increase of these incidents since rearfacing became the rule of the day - these incidents were virtually unheard of before :(
The data does show that rear facing is still much safer even at 2 and after. My original plan was to hold out as long as I could.
Like everything with parenting, there are reasons for and against. But I am glad we made it till 2.

My dd was like 2 weeks short of turning 2... We happened to be on vacation and installed the car seat fwd facing and we decided to keep it that way...

Re: When did you change to fwd facing?
I changed my son 1 week before his 4th birthday when he outgrew the seat RFing height wise. He's 5.5 now and still in a 5pt harness.
Children are 5 times safer RFing. Changing him FFing wasn't a milestone that I was excited about reaching!

Re: When did you change to fwd facing?
For DD we did it close to 2.5 yrs, for DS I think we're going to try to go longer, especially because he has his sister back there and might not feel as lonely. It's sooo much safer, the longer the better!

I use a rearfacing mirror so I can see my son in the rearview mirror.
Just to put in a little perspective- I read 44 children died in hot cars last year. It's awful, and totally preventable.
But on average 1600 children die every year in car accidents- a number that totally dwarfs the hot car numbers.
My son is 2 ys 2 months, 99% for ht and and will remain rearfacing until!he outgrows his seat in that position.

Re: When did you change to fwd facing?
I understand, the statistics are still far in favor of rear facing. part of my personal equation is that I have triplets, one of whom has special needs, and the logistics are more complicated. I tried the mirrors, they kept moving and I would find myself on the bqe in traffic with 3 squalling toddlers that I couldn't see. My special needs toddler is currently non verbal so these stories have put an extra stake of fear in my heart that I could forget him. Even though I know I wouldnt!
But I agree in typical situations it's worth it to hang in there as long as possible as the data from the Swedish study is very compelling! But there may be compelling circumstances in each moms personal situation.
My personal advice would be to hold out till 2 the earliest and try to go longer if possible. But if your circumstances make switching them earlier more feasible - then do it and try not to worry about it :)

Re: When did you change to fwd facing?
I switched my older DD at 17 mos, but that was over 5 years ago when the recommendation was turn at 1 year old and 20 lbs. My LO is now 21 mos and still rear-facing, and I'll definitely keep her that way till she's 2, if not longer.

When did you change to fwd facing?
We're still a while away but my ultimate goal is to keep her RFing until she reaches the maximum height/weight but my minimum goal is 2 years at the very least.

When did you change to fwd facing?
My twins were 2.5 when we switched them.because we were taking g a 16 hour road trip and felt it would be better for them and they could watch the dvd player. I felt safe at that part switching them. My singleton. We switched at 22 months old last month for the same reason we switched the twins. He was the same height and weighed more than my dd did when we switched her.

When did you change to fwd facing?
Maybe a month after turning 2. I was planning to keep her rfing longer but we got a new car and I was having trouble getting her in without bumping her head every time.

When did you change to fwd facing?
We switched him last week. He is 21 months. Pedi said it would be ok because he easily meets weight and height. He is now much happier in the car.
I know it's a personal decision. This is what was best for us at this time.

When did you change to fwd facing?
My oldest was a little over 3.5 when we switched him. My second is 2.5 now and is 3lbs. away from the weight limit, so I imagine we'll be switching him by 3 or so. With all my kids, we plan to wait until they reach the height/weight limit.

When did you change to fwd facing?
DS changed to FF in DH's car a day or two ago - he is almost 1.5. We decided to switch him because he was kicking the seat and loosening his car seat. We are making a long trip in my car next week and will switch him forward there too. It's a personal decision. I really wanted to wait until 2, but I think this is just what will work best for us! I will probably keep DS2 RF for longer because he will have his brother to talk to!
