Extended Breastfeeding

DS is 14.5 months. He is still nursing first thing in AM and right before bed. I'm not sure if he is getting anything at all or if is just for comfort.

How do I go about dropping these? Which one should I drop first? I have only been away from him a handful of times at nighttime and it has never gone well. I am thinking that once nursing is done, someone else might be able to put him to bed at night.

I BF until 27.5 mo. At the end it was just morning and night like you mentioned. But other people could put DS to bed as long as I wasn't home. We ended up dropping the night feed first. swapped out book + sippy of water and he was OK with that.

Wow, that's amazing. I would love to continue, but is so hard to be home every night at 7pm to put him to bed.

I bfed until 17 months. Some time around 14 months I dropped the morning feeding and just proceeded with the morning routine. I don't think he even noticed. a month or two later, I started increasing the time between the evening bfing session and bedtime, until I was bfing him right after dinner instead of right before bed. At time point my husband starting putting him to bed [which was WONDERFUL]. Then I dropped the evening session at 17 months. My son never protested or asked for another nursing session after that.

I BF 14 months; I dropped the morning feeding first. For me that was the easiest; I was able to just give DS Whole Milk instead; the evening was harder since he was used to that for falling asleep. I started offering milk while holding him so he still had the comfort then I was able to just let him drink his last bottle of milk and then he would go in the crib and fall asleep.

I am still going at 15 months, just morning and night. I had to go out of town for two days and DH said she went straight down after her "baba" and books. Whined for 30 seconds in crib and out like a light. I get home and she's immediately grabbing at my shirt. So we ended up picking right back up am and pm. So I guess the trick for us is to have daddy put her to bed. Only that isn't possible often so maybe we'll try to wean her off on a weekend or on vacation. (Or maybe I'll leave for a few days again! )

I try bottle first every am now since I have been home but so far she ends up trying to rip my shirt off soon after. She ditches the half full bottle for me.

Sooner or later she'll wean. I was worried it was for comfort but if DH could get her down no problem it's probably because she just wants to cuddle with me and she likes my milk.

I am still going at 22mos, and let me tell you I had NO idea I would when she was born, but as of now I nurse her to go to bed and if she wakes in the night, sometimes she wakes at 5am and I'll nurse her for like 1-2m and lay her back down.

We recently dropped the am session, the first few days she ran to her chair and i distracted her with a yogurt and with the chance to watch Peppa pig, after 3 days she didn't run to her chair.

If I am not home anyone else can lay her down to go to bed and she is fine, she knows they don't have milk lol.

Dd is 21 months and I just stopped BFing. For a long time I was down to just when she woke in the morning and at bedtime. I decided to drop the morning session first since I was still getting her to sleep at night by nursing her. The first few mornings she was looking to nurse and I felt bad, but I distracted her with her toys or tv and gave her a glass of milk. After about a few days she completely stopped expecting to nurse jn the morning. Then at bedtime I could tell that she was just nursing for comfort and that no milk was coming out anymore. She even was forgetting how to latch properly and was causing me pain. So I stopped the nighttime session as well.

I weaned her very slowly and had no pain or engorgement issues.

DS BF'd for 2 years. The last feeding to go was bedtime. We started adding singing some lullaby's to him around 16 months to ease the transition. Finally on vacation he dropped the last feeding himself. I found a harder time letting go than he did.

DS1self weaned at 15 months. I stopped nursing DS2 at 19.5 months. Both boys dropped the night session on their own and I just nursed them in the morning.
