I switched DD just after her 3rd bday. I didn't want to but I also have a Britax and she is tall.

We switched a couple of weeks after DD's 2nd birthday.
It's very interesting that outside of parenting boards, very few people I know IRL keep their kids facing past 1. All our family and numerous friends and neighbors pestered us about it DD's whole second year.

Same here! I switched both of my boys after they turned 2.
I agree, hardly anyone I meet has their kids rear facing by the time they are 2. I had lots of people question me when my sons were rear-facing past a year!

I think it's bc we are the ones educating ourselves on the boards. I have a friend from mommy and me class that when she installed her conv car seat it was ff!!! I said something to her, but then dropped it bc it's her child although I said a few times how much safer they are rf.

Me 3. We recently had two different people with children around the same age as DS question the fact that he was still rear facing.

My mom and MIL already started with me when I said I plan on RFing as long as possible. I couldn't care less about their opinion though lol. I'm the one who has done the research on the benefits of extended rfing, not them.

DD is 33 months old (will be 3 in oct.) and still rearfacing in her britax marathon and her graco size4me 70. She is on the tall side at about 37 inches. Based on where she is now I anticipate she will outgrow her marathon rear facing before she turns 3. The amount of crap i hear from people for her still being rear-facing is mindblowing. Don't care!

18 months - and flame away - but my daughter gets very car sick and threw up EVERY single day she was in the car facing backwards. Even when she had nothing to eat since the night before and even when we only went somewhere that was 5 minutes away and no matter who was driving. It is much better now forward facing and we got the ok from the ped.
So yes, I do think this was a parenting decision. Do I want my daughter to throw up a few times a day, do I never want to take her anywhere in a car or do I want her to be a fraction less safe facing forward.
I don't regret my decision for a second.

Exactly why sometimes a parenting decision is necessary. I don't think you had much of a choice!
My kid screams bloody murder i RF. we are trying to hang in there ,but I don't see how safe it is to be driving with stressed and nervous cause your child is screaming in the seat. That is a distraction. He is 16.5 months and HUGE (90-95p for both weight and height) and in a britax. I don't blame him for screaming. I don't see us keeping him RF much longer.

I don't think anyone would flame you for this at all. Who would want to clean up vomit every day or have their baby getting car sick at every trip? You have an ACTUAL reason for FF.
I am a believer in extended RF. My kids are 5.5 and still in 5 pt harness. They are both in the 85th to 90th percentile in weight and height, but I feel safest with them restrained like this. They probably have another year before they grow out of this seat either by height or weight.

Thanks and to caps612 as well - I read these posts and am sick to my stomach thinking cast it or casket and it makes me feel like the worst mom ever. I still don't regret my decision and we aren't going back to RF - but it makes me feel like a terrible mom.

mK2010 - I feel the same way, even though I have too an atypical situation that prevented me from keeping them rear facing past two. But then I think of my friends who live in the city and carry their babies on their laps in cabs (legal!) and it gives me some perspective. Our kids aren't rolling around on the floor unrestrained in a jeep wrangler or riding in the back of a motorcycle or anything! They are safely secured in the most modern of car seats, in a manner that was until two years ago thought to be the safest :) other moms who keep their kids rearfacing may do other things that we wouldn't do. Parenting sometimes requires judgement calls. I would also think vomiting at 40 mph is a safety concern!

Same for me. We turned her at 16 months bc of car sickness. Albeit, we live in the city and don't drive that much, but still it was the right decision for our situation.
