Hello everyone!

I just gave birth to my first child and I had to get a C Section due to birthing complications (Baby was wrapped in the cord) I have been trying to breast feed but nothing has been coming out.

How long does it take for milk production to start with a C section?

What did you do to increase and/or develop your milk production?

I shouldn't matter the type of birth--the placenta detaching is what signals milk production.

My milk took 5-6 days to come in. Before that it is just colostrum and your baby's tummy is so small that a teaspoon or less of colostrum will fill their belly.

I know many people that chose to supplement at the beginning until their milk came in and continued to BF for a year+

The best way to increase milk production is to put the baby to the breast as much as possible!!!!

How do you know nothing is coming out? Their tummy is so small when they're born-the size of a marble or so and they really don't need much at all

Is the baby having dirty/wet diapers? If so they're being fed..

I just gave birth the 13, and my milk came in 3 days later-boobs felt hard and heavy all of a sudden

I had my DS on a Friday and my milk came in on Monday.

In the beginning, your DC will be more or less attached to the boob all day everyday for the first 2-3 weeks. That's the best way to establish your supply in the beginning. Clusterfeeding can be very overwhelming but it is necessary.

DD was born on Thursday and my milk didn't come in until Monday or Tuesday.

Keep up the good work! As long as she is having wet/dirty diapers, she's getting enough!

Well, I gave birth Friday the 18th and my milk has not come in yet. I have been putting her on the boob every chance I get. My sister breast feeds and she gave me her extra supply so I have been supplementing with that but I would really like to be able to feed my own child.

Just keep putting the baby on and my LC told me in the beginning to also just hold the baby constantly to help stimulate production. Drink tons of water and make sure you're eating a lot too. When she is latched, try to constantly stimulate her to keep actively eating by rubbing under her chin, stroking her cheek, tickling her feet, etc. The most important thing is to just have the baby nurse as much as possible. GL!

I agree with making sure you get baby on the boob as much as possible-the more you give a bottle the less it will stimulate your own production

I would call a LC. They will weigh your baby before and after a feeding to see if they are getting anything at all. They can diagnose what a problem might be and how to help you resolve it.

I found drinking water was key to a healthy milk production. In addition I pumped while she slept so I could help my supply. I was in the hospital for 5 days and I don't think my milk really came in until the day I got home from the hospital.

I didn't have real milk for six days, which I was confused about. However, I nursed on a typical schedule in the hospital and during the night ds was fed formula. I nursed for a year and all was good.

about 2 weeks for me but she was born at 37w. Boy when it came in it was FULL FORCE. Ironically I had to stop due to medications so all that milk and no baby for it. *shrug*

My milk came in 4 days PP. Keep on nursing. It will seem like that's all you do but it's necessary. EBF before my milk came in was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life.

just keep doing exactly what you are doing skin to skin as much as possible and putting her to breast and staying as stress free as you can good luck mama

Don't worry, as others said, colostrum comes first and it's such a little amount. My milk came in about 5 days later, and although it was a small amount, it keeps increasing as you feed more or pump.

The colostrum is more than enough for your little one for the first week! Your baby's belly is only the size of a large marble on day one and a golf ball a week later! It works with supply and demand - keep at it - the more you nurse the more your body will make! I had 3 c-sections and breasted all 3 for a full year! And my milk came in REAL LATE - like 5-7 days! But all did ok and I never had to supplement! Colostrum is good! It will get easier I promise!
