Present to older DC from newborn(s)?
I'm expecting twins in September and I want to have a gift from them to DD when she sees them in the hospital for the first time.
What did your newborn get your older child? DD is 4 and I was thinking of a necklace, but that's all I can come up with.

Re: Present to older DC from newborn(s)?
Id do a t shirt if anything. I had a present for DS to give DD but she was she only wanted to hold and talk to her new baby brother. If id have given her anything it would have been over looked and tossed aside. I ended up saving what I had bought for her birthday which was a few weeks later and used it as a birthday present from DS to DD.
I know that people put together activity baskets for the older sibling to occupy them when visiting but we didn't need that. I was only in the hospital one real day and between just wanting to be near her baby brother and then looking At babies in the nursery DDs time was occupied. She was 3 at the time.

When our DS was born we had him give our DD a personalized Big Sister tote bag and inside there was a big sister t-shirt, a teddy bear wearing a big sister t-shirt, some coloring books and crayons, and a few of her favorite snacks. She LOVED it!

I like the backpack or bag with activities inside. Also, what about a blank photo album for her to fill up. She could help take some pictures of the babies and then you could print out some favorites for her to keep in her album. I think it would be a fun activity for her and is a keepsake she could have - although it would take a little help from you of course. Maybe even a kids scrapbook kit.

Re: Present to older DC from newborn(s)?
My dd was 2.5 and received the big sister shirts from friends and relatives. My dh bought her a stuffed animal frog from the gift shop because she was really into frogs and hopping at that point lol. We thought it would be a big hit when we said it was gift from her baby brother. She barely even looked at it. She was so focused on the baby and sitting with me. I think as long as right when she walks through the door you are totally focused on her for a little bit of time that is really what they want.

Thanks for all of the great ideas. It didn't even occur to me that she might be so focused on the babies that she wouldn't care about the gift.

I never thought of the shirt, we had bought my daughter a puzzle and M&Ms. if we hadn't done anything she wouldn't have cared. I think it was more for us and to make sure my older DD was okay with the baby.

DS "bought" DD a couple of books that, to this day, when we read them she reminisces about the day she first met him in the hospital. She also bought him a bib and a rattle and brought that to the hospital and that gift exchange between the two of them are one of my favorite newborn memories
