To Police Officers, Police Families, Police supporters and friends
Hello, I don't often find myself on sites like this, however I am starting a Long Island based police support group for Police Officers, Police Officer's families, Friends and general supporters, and I know that this forum has a wide reach of people from Long Island. Our goal is to eventually have a couple family type events every year starting with a Candle light vigil for fallen officers which will hopefully take place in the near future. I am asking for any and all support because we have been told that this is "too political". We are not asking for money or donations, only support. This is not advertising or soliciting business. Thank you very much, and a link to our Facebook page is as follows.

You should look into NEW YORK METRO COPS CHAPTER -- COPS is "Concerns of Police Survivors". They are funded, a big group, grassroots, and would probably like to partner to get these things off the ground - like a candelight vigil.
Thanks for doing this.
If I may make one suggestion - whichever route you go, whether you choose to reach out to COPS or not, please include support for INJURED in the line of duty officers. Too often they "slip through the cracks" because they didn't lose their life -- but many of them have to live with life-altering injuries, many of them have lost much of the FUNCTIONALITY of their lives. So, that should be considered. And many of them have "grieving" children who miss their parent the way they once were before they were hurt by a "bad person".
Just food for thought. There are so many support groups and camps and therapeutic things out there for kids of fallen officers but when my nephew really needed it most, when his father was put in a wheelchair and rendered speechless, it was "sorry, we don't have anything for him".
One day, when I hit lotto, I want to create something... something that will include EVERYONE - injured, killed, etc. and won't turn anyone away.

Absolutely. This is a support group for all police and police families, active, retired, injured, resigned, whoever. I appreciate the support and I will try not to let anyone slip through the cracks. Quite often cops are so used to seeing the worst of the worst that they forget that there are people out there that support them and that other cops and their families care about them. I just want to set up some type of group or network that let's people know that we are here for them. Thank you very much I will reach out to them and I appreciate your support.

To Police Officers, Police Families, Police supporters and friends
We are currently raising money for The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund by selling Thin Blue Island T-Shirts which were designed to represent pride in our police and our Long Island police community. Any support is greatly appreciated. The shirts were designed for our support the police event/candle light vigil which will be announced this week. Thank You again.

just wondering, I thought you stated you were not asking for $$ just support by spreading the word, but you are selling your shirts to raise money. BEFORE anyone gets upset with my question, I come from a line of police officers, but when we receive calls asking for donations for police organizations, we know something is up because the police department never solicits.
Just concerned.

To Police Officers, Police Families, Police supporters and friends
I appreciate you're concern, and I would encourage everyone not to give any money to anyone over the phone, because as the saying goes, "If a cop calls you and asks you for money, it's not a cop, it's a con" I am not soliciting anything. The 2 dollars per shirt (approximately) is being donated to The National Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial Fund, which is a national organization in Washington DC, where they have Police Week every year, which I encourage everyone to attend. It is a legitimate 501c3 charity organization which helps to preserve a national memorial and national memorial services for fallen officers. If you click on the link to the shirt, you can see the link to the website is posted, and the funds go directly to the charity, they don't even touch our (Thin Blue Island) hands. I did this so that there would be less confusion as to where the money was going. Our organization is not large enough nor do we have the resources to run a charity of our own, so I thought the NLEOMF would be the next best thing. Also booster.com which is a subsidiary of Customink.com is a legitimate high quality shirt making business. Their booster.com service allows for discounted prices on shirts providing that a certain amount is donated to a charity, this being a win/win/win. Our organization gets the message out, we provide shirts for people that want to purchase them at a lower rate than normal, and a charity gets some support. I am as skeptical of charities as anyone, so I understand where you are coming from, but I want to assure you that our organization while new and small is run with the utmost integrity. Sorry for any confusion.

This post really irritates me..... Especially with all of the negative publicity the Police are getting right now..... She in no way asked for money at all , just to simply purchase a t shirt where proceeds go to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund ... I think that this Organization, on Long Island is much needed , especially now and if you came from a "long line of police officers" , as you stated, you would appreciate it as well.
Only here on LIF is it possible to turn good into a scam time and time again.....

I see nothing wrong with inquiring. Scams are all over the place and you know there is at least one person out there running a con under the guise of supporting police officers. The OP's explanation should help people feel comfortable. Everyone who donates anywhere has the right to know where their money is going.

Thank you !! I read it as if they are asking to donate by buying a shirt they sell after she stated the opposite in the first post. PP on this site can donate to whom ever they want. I just felt it sounded odd.

I just want to vouch for this poster and this cause. The person who started the organization and booster for t-shirts works with my husband. This is 100% legitimate and everything is going towards supporting police officers and all MOS. So please join the page and come to the candlelight vigil! I know we will be there.
