Is it weird to invite kids to a party on the first week of school?
Ds birthday is September 11. He is going into first grade. We are having a birthday party for him at the end of September at a place. He really wants to invite his "friends" from school but aside from 1 or 2 I don't know many of the parents. I was thinking of inviting his first grade class but I am not sure if people would feel weird getting an invite right away. With my friends with kids, I already have 16 kids if they all say yes so I am not worried about not having enough. But this summer I have realized he asks for play dates with kids from school (we see them at the pool) rather than with our friends who have kids his age which is what he used to ask for! Last year I felt weird too so I didn't do it (but I also did his party the first week of September). Would you mind being invited to a party on the first week of school?

I see this question a lot. I don't understand it. A party is a party. Start of the school year is a great time to get to know everyone. My children want to go to all parties they are invited to, and we go as long as there is no other conflict. I say go for it. If someone minds that is their issue. I was Sept 6 th. I always had parties in September. Everyone always came. If that is your child's birthday invite the class it is a nice gesture.

A party at the beginning of the school year is a great way to get to know everyone. Invite the entire class if you can or just the boys. I don't think it's weird at all.

My son's b-day is Sept 10th and we do this every year! I ask the teachers for a class list on the 1st day and hand out invites that first week and usually have the party the last week in September. I never had an issue and its a great way for all the parents to get to know each other!

Not weird at all! My ds is going into 2nd grade and he has already received 2 party invitations. One party is on the 2nd day of school! I think it is great because we have been away all summer and it is a good chance to catch up with all their friends.

Not weird. It's a great chance for the kids to get to know each other & form a nice relationship with them outside of the classroom.

Not weird at all- we have an early birthday here too and everyone is always thrilled to be invited. You will get to know all the other parents and kids right away.
