Getting a puppy to pee on walks
Okay, so my puppy Emma is 4 months. When we got her we were led to believe that she was spayed, had all her vaccines, and was mostly housebroken. None of this was true, and it wasn't until I had her in the car the foster mother told me all this. I live in an apartment and was told until all her vaccines were done she was not to go on walks where other dogs go. So we set up on our balcony fake grass with pee pads. We finished her vaccines and now she will not go to the bathroom on walks, only on the pee pads on our balcony. I would really like the balcony back since I have two kids and a water table out there for them, and I would also in general like her completely house broken. Any suggestions on how I can help this along? She has been walking outside for 2 weeks now, and nada.

Re: Getting a puppy to pee on walks
find a code word for going to the bathroom.. when your puppy goes praise her with good ...code word. you can train them to go where you want as well. At some point when out on your walk you will say, go code word...
always praise or give some positive reinforcement so she makes the connection between the word and the act.

Re: Getting a puppy to pee on walks
So what are some common words to use for the pee command? I don't want to use Potty because I have two young kids and I will have a dog peeing everywhere lol
Do i stop her all together from peeing on the patio "grass"?

Re: Getting a puppy to pee on walks
you prob need to take her outside often, use a code word, like snap or zip. Once she starts say, good snap or zip (or other code word) and give a treat. Once she makes the connection you can take her out for a walk her and say time for snap or Zip and hopefully she will go on the spot

Re: Getting a puppy to pee on walks
We are using "potty" with our new puppy, but my old dog and my dog growing up, we said "do your business"
