Organic moms who have kids in UPK -school Breakfast/Lunch related
If you are strict over your child's diet, does your child eat their school breakfasts or lunches? Our prek classes are given this food during class time. They do not have to go in earlier for breakfast like the other grades so I have no control over him not eating it. Yesterday he also threw up after school but I'm thinking it was from the OJ being too acidic for his stomach. Today I sent the teacher a note asking if he could bring in a water plus a small snack instead of him eating the school food. Let's see what she says but what do you do? DH said to just give in & it's only 1 meal a day but my son gets crazy after drinking juice plus looking at the menu, he would never eat what is offered most of the week anyway & would end up choosing the sugar cereal offered. I don't know what cereal is actually offered, I am just guessing it's not a healthier one.

Why can't you pack a lunch? I can't see what is written on that, it just doesn't come up big enough.

Sorry, it's the nyc calendar of what it being served. I can't re-send it through my phone right now. I sent him to school with his own food & ds said that it was given to him to eat so I guess I will do that.

This is NYC? They don't have to eat what is offered. My DS is in 2nd grade and he has never eaten one bite of their breakfast/lunch offerings. I'd love him to, because it is free, but he doesn't eat it.
Just send in a lunch in a lunchbox, and then a snack labeled with his name with a water only in the snack.

The types of cereal are listed on the bottom. Imo they sound like good cereals.

I can't read the menu at all. I would just send in lunch and snacks and say you don't want any other food served to him. That's what I will be doing.

NYC Breakfast Menu
I don't think that the cold cereal choices are that bad. NYC tries to provide healthy choices for students.

Damn this is healthier than DD (or I for that matter) eat on a daily basis. I wish she'd eat stuff like this!

My DD's daycare provides breakfast and a snack, but I still send her in with all her food because I'm crazy about that stuff. I don't buy everything organic, but some I do and I like to make sure DD eats healthy.

My dd eats mostly all organic and this is something I thought about for the future as well. Once in a while is one things but I see a lot I would personally question.

I wouldn't be ok with this menu so I understand your concern. processed meat, juice and syrups are never on our menus at home or restaurants. Definitely send your own food!

DD just had snack in UPK. I sent her in with her own from school. It wasn't a problem initially but then one day the teacher told her she wasn't allowed to. I wound up having a 45 min phone call with the director. She was basically telling me that my daughter had to have pretzels, goldfish crackers, etc, instead of the fruit/veggie I was sending. She came around..lol..I still can't believe how ridiculous the conversation was.
