Rule of thumb for K and colds?
So, 9 days in, DS has a cold. His temp is below 100, but he is now very stuffy/runny. It felt like he had a cold every other week in pre-k and I kept him home a lot but now that he is in K, I am more hesitant. I'm a SAHM, so childcare is not an issue. What do/did you do about colds in K?

Re: Rule of thumb for K and colds?
My DD lasted till January without missing a day in K but in first grade she missed the first day of the first full week because she was sick.
I would keep him home. I feel like so many of DD's peers have already been sick; someone threw up in class today. That new virus has made its way to NY so he will be better off himself and also won't make anyone else sick.

Re: Rule of thumb for K and colds?
DS just started Kindergarten as well. He had a cold last week and I sent him to school anyway. IMO, unless he's got a fever or throwing up he needs to go to school. Ds gets sick a few times a year and if I kept him out every day that he's sick he'd miss too many days.

For a cold I would send in unless he is not feeling himself. If they are acting normal with a runny nose send in.

For a cold I still send him in. If I kept him home for a runny nose between allergy season and winter he'd never go to school.
If he really isn't himself then keep him home. You know your child better than anyone. Kids are walking germs... I have DS wash his hands as soon as he gets home from school, but who knows what they pick up there, in public, birthday parties, etc. Just building up their immune system. LOL

I may have a different opinion b/c mine have been in Daycare since 6 months old - but for a cold, and they're feeling OK? They go ...... You'll see basically the whole school has some kind of runny nose, sneezing etc etc from Oct - March

Rule of thumb for K and colds?
my dd just stared K too and just got a cold yesterday. Last night she sounded really bad but no fever. I waited to see how she acted this morning. She was still not feeling well but she never even asked to not go to school. I told myself that I would let her stay home if she brought it up or told me she wasnt up to it.

Re: Rule of thumb for K and colds?
I kept him home, mostly because I felt guilty about him spreading germs to other kids. He was pretty snotty, but he was fine, really, so back he goes tomorrow! Thanks for all of the opinions!
