Cord Tissue?

I banked DD#1's cord blood with viacord so I called them up for pricing to bank DD#2's and now they bank tissue too. It is more expensive and only in research now so I was thinking of just banking the blood.

Any thoughts on cord tissue?

Re: Cord Tissue?

I don't know much about the tissue but given the option I only banked the blood so I would have his stem cells. I didn't pay the extra for the tissue, not sure if I should have. I will prob do the same this time around.

I didn't do tissue because there is no known treatment that uses tissue. Sure that might change, but it might not.

My understanding is that the tissue can be used to grow organs. If your LO ever needed an organ transplant the tissue can be used instead of being put on a transplant list. Additionally, people who have transplants need anti-rejection meds and risk getting all kinds of illnesses as a result of donor organs. This reduces these things.

In theory - but this isn't actually being done. There are zero treatments approved by fda that involve cord tissue.
