Is this too much food?

I am hosting thanksgiving for 10 people.

For the main meal there will be turkey (with all the condiments: gravy, canned cranberry sauce, fresh cranberry sauce and applesauce)
For sides my MIL is bringing her yams and apples
I will def. be making sweet potato casserole, salad, stuffing and a string bean casserole. (so everything above is essentially non-negotiable)
However, I was also debating making acorn squash, mac and cheese and broccoli... is that too much? Which of these sides should I keep and which should go?

Keep in mind, I will be serving appetizers and desserts as well.

I think that it should be more than enough to just include the broccoli. You don't really need the Mac n cheese if you have stuffing nor the squash if you have green beans.
Unless you know the Mac n cheese is a must.

Sounds yummy and I think you have enough food for 10 people but personally I like the idea of adding a pasta dish as another main entree. I would do lasagna or stuffed shells. I think the vegetables are enough....maybe homemade cheddar biscuits too?

Yes, I forgot to add there will be assorted bread basket. If we do add a pasta, it will be the mac and cheese.

I don't think you need the mac and cheese. Thanksgiving tends to be very carb heavy as it is. Of your choices I would probably opt for the squash if you want to add something

Re: Is this too much food?

I like a lot of food for Thanksgiving, and I always overdo it, but I think some of your sides are similar.

If you have mashed sweet potatoes, and then your mother in law is bringing yams and apples, that is very similar. And acorn squash is also similar to sweet potatoes/yams in my opinion. So I definitely wouldn't do all 3.

In my house, we always have mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes. Will people care if you don't have a regular mashed potato dish?

With the veggies, I would not do broccoli, the string bean casserole, and a salad. I usually do one vegetable and a salad, and to be honest, the neither really is the most popular item. I have a lot leftover. So I'd nix the broccoli if you have string beans and salad.

While I am big into food, I honestly don't think you need a pasta, including the mac and cheese. Growing up, my grandmother (who is Italian) always had lasagna or pasta on Thanksgiving, but when I started hosting, I nixed that and I stick to the traditional turkey and side dishes. I also do a lot of hors d'ourves. Lasagna and pasta are so filling and people get overstuffed on Thanksgiving anyway. I'd rather people enjoy the meal and leave room for dessert. I used to toy with the idea of a ham or something else additional, but for my crowd (which is usually around 12-15 people), I do appetizers and drinks, then turkey with all of the traditional sides, and then usually a few pies and coffee for dessert, and it works out well.

I would just add mashed potatoes only because some people don't like sweet potatoes I personally love them but I know my husband and father in law do not. Other than that I think you are good to go.
