HSG North Shore Manhasset
Has anyone had an HSG performed at North Shore Manhasset? I have been reading up on the procedure and I read that it can be very painful. I was hoping to get some personal experiences from you ladies. What dr performed the procedure and any advice to help with the pain? Thanks!!

Hi. I had mine done their last month. You go to the radiology dept at the hospital and a resident md does it. Your on an xray table as it's done because they take pictures of your tubes while the dye goes through. I won't lie, it was painful as they insert the dye, you can get very bad cramps. I had to ask them to stop a few times and they did to give me a break. My tubes were clear but I still had pain. I would advise taking ibprofane before the procedure. In the end though, if it helped make sure there was no issues there than the pain was worth it. Good luck!!!

I haven't had one there but have had one. Everyone experience is different. Mine wasn't bad- I did take 600 mg of Advil before the procedure. It was uncomfortable but not painful.

Re: HSG North Shore Manhasset
I had done at n-rad. It was uncomfortable but the pain was relatively quick. I was given an antibiotic to take for five days (two before and the rest after) as a precaution and Advil before hand. Wear old sweats, the iodine will leak afterwards and be a little messy but they will give you wipes to clean up. It was not a pleasure cruise but it was over fast. Definitely take the Advil or a pain reliever an hour or two before you go. Good luck!

Thanks girls! Some people say it increases your chances of a BFP. Anyone else hear this?

I didn't take any pain meds but it was painful during the procedure. I didn't find it painful after once they removed everything out of me.
It's about 4 minutes maybe 5 at most so you just have to breathe a bit and focus on the person doing it and their instructions to get it done as quickly as possible.
I didn't get it done at NSM though.

They obviously didn't increase my chances.

Didn't have an HSG done since I knew what my IF issues were(non functioning tubes). I heard its uncomfortable but it's more as the dye is being injected.

I actually ended up having it at Zilkha Radiology in West Islip and although it was pretty uncomfortable, it wasn't as bad as I had imagined. Manhassett didn't have a time available that worked for me and Zilkha was much more flexible. Dr Zilkha was amazing...he relaxed me and talked me through every step. Good news is everything looks picture perfect! Hopefully it cleared any blockages out and my tubes will be nice and ready for a sticky bean.
TyRese - how did you find out you have nonfunctioning tubes without an HSG?
