When do kids normally start nursery school?
My son who is 9 months old is being watched by his grandmother and its great now but thinking ahead when is a good age to put him in nursery school?
My hubby thinks 18 months but I dont know if thats too early...any thoughts?

When do kids normally start nursery school?
My parents also watched my son and I put him in a two year old program; he was 2.5 in September when it started. Despite doing Gymboree, library classes, church classes, etc. he was so bored at my parents' house by that point, however, I wish I'd started him earlier, closer to 2.

DD is now 22 months old - we put dd in at 18 months and we are so glad she did. she was at an age she is able to enjoy it and not freak out when we left her. i also feel they taught her a lot which took the pressure off of my mom to figure out what she needed to "learn" (prior to nursery school, my mom was watching her full time).
we plan on putting ds in at 18 months too

I want to start my son as early as possible. He is so curious and eager to learn and do -- I want him to experience as much as possible. There are two year old programs and I'm going to see if he qualifies for early start - a lot of programs will start kids early if they evaluate them and see that they are ready.

15 weeks? LOL
Age is really irrelevant. Some kids are ready earlier than others, some may be too shy or unable to handle the environment. My daughter's 1st grade classmate has an older sister in private school because her parents found that public school did not fit her well, she clammed up and shut down and got bullied, where as their younger one (in AJ's class) took to it easily since pre-k.
Me, I am a strong believer in social interaction. But that said, at 18-24 there was a lot of separation anxiety. She's been in daycare/preschool since 15w. She was accepted early into a Montessori program at 18m but we waited until she was 2yrs old. Until then it was just daycare and summers with Auntie.

When do kids normally start nursery school?
Right now he does not interact with many people or children at all. She doesn't speak English or drive so he is stuck at home all the time. I just want him to be a well adjusted boy later on.

I work part time so my kids started daycare early, but if I was a SAHM I wouldn't have started them until 3.

Most people we know start at age 2. Everyone seems to go by age 3.
Many SAHMs we know have kids 2-3 years apart so they send the child at around age 2. Working moms also send at around age 2.
I stayed home for a while when my 2nd was born. I started 2.5 yo DS at PT preschool for 2 mornings per week.
I started working part time and put my younger child in full time preschool at age 2.

My DD was in a 2s program that she started at 19 months b/c she jus made the cutoff. She separated smoothly and loved it!

DD would NOT have been ready for a 2yr program, she was extremely shy. She started a 3yr program but turned 4 the first week of school (school cut-off by me is 9/1 and her bday is 9/7 so she'll always be the oldest in her class).
She's doing GREAT now!

Traditional nursery is 3
Pre K is 4
They have early programs too (2s...), but it sounds like you are really asking about daycare... which can start at 6 weeks.

Not necessary for day care if you don't need it. Save the $$. I started dd 1 and dd2 wil start at 2.5. Just so happens that way. I was looking for dd1 at 2 but didn't find a school that I could afford lol until 2.5. Dd2 turns 2 in. Archa nd will start in sept.
He will be fine

My understanding is that traditional, non day care preschools started at age 3 for nursery programs and age 4 for pre-k programs. Anything before those ages is more of a daycare type thing , no?

Developmentally, he doesn't need to interact with anyone but a loving, responsive care giver at 9 months. You don't need to worry about social interaction until he is older.

DD isn't starting until 3.5 (January baby).
I honestly think before 3, they really don't care about socialization.
You can always do a Gymboree class.
