Loss of Pet
I am 5w5d pregnant with DC3. My dog died unexpectedly today and I am a wreck. I called my OB because I am afraid of what the stress can do to the baby but they are closed until Monday. Can the stress affect the baby? I have the worst headache - can I take Tylenol this early in the pregnancy? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Loss of Pet
I am so sorry. The baby will be ok. I believe Tylenol is ok. Just make sure you stay hydrated for both of you. Our bodies are a lot tougher than we think. My friend lost her grandmother unexpectedly at 32w pregnant. She was a wreck. All the dr. told her was stay hydrated, try to get as much rest as possible (she couldn't sleep for days), and watch for signs of early labor as undue stress could put you in early labor (obv not the case for you). He told her the baby will be fine, our bodies are built to handle more than we know. Try to take care of yourself.

Re: Loss of Pet
Thanks guys. I am forcing myself to eat and drink and took 1 tylenol. Counting down the days to my first appointment and hoping I am not stressing the baby.

Re: Loss of Pet
I'm sure you aren't stressing the baby just yourself. So sorry to hear such terrible news. If it makes you feel better you and the baby aren't really even sharing a blood supply yet so all though stress hormones etc aren't reaching baby. But I hope you feel better for your sake and hang in there. It's ok to grieve!

I'm sure baby is fine, but sorry for your loss. Loss of a pet is so hard anytime, but I'd never want to deal with it with first trimester hormones. Good luck!
