When choosing a classroom setting for a child there is a lot to consider. You have to think about his areas of strengths/weaknesses, how wide is the gap between his academic skills and his peers?, rate of progress, retention of information learned, self-care/attending skills, social/emotional skills and level of independence in the classroom setting. How much support does your child need in order to learn and function in a classroom setting? It sounds like his current teacher feels like she can't meet his needs in the integrated setting and the psychologist agrees. It's often more difficult to get a child into a self contained/smaller class than it is to re integrate them back into the general class setting. I would take a look at some of the self contained classes that his pre K has and see if you feel he would function better in that setting.

I definitely plan on observing the class they recommended. Ty for your insight :)

Self contained classroom

Observe both classes - the integrated and self contained. From my own experience, I observed both possible places, thinking that I knew which one my child belonged in. When I saw the 2 settings, I agreed with the placement the district was recommending.
