another wood flooring question.. should refinishing without staining be cheaper?

We decided not to stain our floors like we originally wanted because after ripping up the carpets, we realized that the natural color of our floors was exactly what we wanted.

Anyway, would you expect sanding & 2 coats of poly to be a cheaper price than sanding, staining & 2 coats of poly?

Yes, by about $500, according to an estimate I had.

if I recall, the stain counts as a coat. ie, now you will need 3 coats of poly if no stain.


when I priced it out, stain was I think $.50 a square foot more than just poly.

Thank you ladies. My floor guy is stressing me out. He sucks. He has had workers come do my floors, has never been to the house himself. I never met him, when I have texted him specific questions, he doesn't answer all parts.. ugh, just a vent!

I don't think it is a huge savings.
