Need help - wedding attire
Dh and I were invited to a medieval attired wedding in JuLY. no this isn't a joke. It's family so I have to go. What do I wear?
I really don't want to buy a costume.

Re: Need help - wedding attire
I would wear/buy an open neckline black long dress and just do a thick braid hairstyle and accent jewelry thick chunky jewels that resembles that time. I'm not sure about your DH. I'm sure they will have props for you there to fit in more with the theme (hopefully)

Is renting a dress an option? There is a costume store in LI that has a ton of renaissance and medieval dresses that you can rent.

Something gothic/medievil era, long sleeve dress with flared out. I bet you could find something randomly! Dark colors, black, burgundy. Even velvety fabric could work! Gluck! (Watch Game of Thrones for inspiration)

Re: Need help - wedding attire
I would just wear a regular dress.
What are they going to do - kick you out?
I wouldn't spend money on an outfit unless it was something I would wear again.

Need help - wedding attire
I would look for a simple regular dress that maybe has a "suggestion" of the theme and then add some accessories

Re: Need help - wedding attire
My brother had a Renaissance wedding at Coindre Hall. I wore a simple black a-line gown with black Chinese slippers. To get a Renaissance look, I wore a silver & red beaded head band across my forehead and had my hair braided. A lot of extended family did not wear costumes just the immediate were required but there were quite a few guests/friends that wore plain gowns and dressed it up with period jewelry and/or hairstyles depicted during that time. A simple dress accessorized would fit right in. Have fun!

Something like this would be beautiful and cool for a summer wedding. And you could totally do it up with hair and jewelery.

Need help - wedding attire
I attend the Renaissance Fair every year. I go in full costume - shirt, corset, underskirt and over skirt. I also wear knee high lace up boots and chain maille jewelry. We usually attend in August. It is hot. But no hotter than wearing any other clothes. You should be fine in July. I wanted to do this for my wedding, but was talked out of it. What a bummer.
