Would you... (RE changing docs)
Would you choose an OBGYN practice that couldn't guarantee that a member of their own practice would deliver you?
I have been trying to make a new-patient appointment with a doctor who delivers out of Stony Brook, but the practice I contacted has "cross coverage" with another practice, so if I deliver on a weekend, I may have to put my trust in the hands of some random doc from the other practice. IDK if I'm just being a paranoid first-time mom or what.
Also, I'll take recommendations for doctors who deliver out of Stony Brook hospital if you're compelled to rave about your practice.

Would you... (RE changing docs)
I use and love Three Village Women's Health. However both deliveries I went in on a Sunday and both times it was not one of their doctors. My first was delivered by Dr. Reevis. It was a very uncomplicated delivery so I didn't see much of him and it was fine. My second, Dr. Welischar from SBOBGYN was on and it was the total opposite. The baby wasn't moving, her heart rate wasn't showing any acceleration and she said she had no idea what was wrong but we should deliver despite me being 35 weeks. She did an ecs and was so great the whole time and definitely did the right thing by getting the baby out right away. Some day I may have a third and maybe one of my own doctors will get to do it! I love my practice, the office staff (in the Patchogue office), and have had all good experiences. I also trust that they wouldn't share coverage with practices they didn't trust so I'm okay with it.

Yes I would have a problem with that. I trust the four doctors in my practice while heartedly and to not have one of them there on my delivery day would totally freak me. I hated the resident OB at Winthrop who first saw me before my doctor got to the hospital. He was obnoxious and I honestly don't think j would have like my labor experience/birth experience if he was delivering my DS
No suggestions on doctors sorry

Sorry I don't have any recommendations in stony brook bc I live on the south shore but I switched obs before I got pregnant bc the place I was going to had 8 different Drs and I always saw pregnant women waiting like an hour in the waiting room to be seen and I knew I wanted something smaller! I switched to a practice with two doctors and I love them both! There's actually a third dr now and she's such a doll and I would be completely comfortable with any of them delivering!

Re: Would you... (RE changing docs)
I go to a practice that cross covers. Luckily, they cross covered with my former OB and I was fortunate to get to meet my current OB when he delivered DS. It was a good thing!
The OBs that cover at SB are all good so I wouldn't worry about it.

Yes, I'd be ok with that. You'll spend more time with your provider while pregnant than giving birth.

for myself, I really hate the idea but I know there is also a chance that you can get to the hospital and have the baby so fast that really anyone avail at that minute will have to deliver.
I personally, like to meet all the people possibly delivering my baby. if this is your first birth, chances are you will have a long labor and long birth, so I would find a practice that you are comfortable with.
if this was your 2nd or 3rd, where you could potentially sneeze the baby out, then I guess I would stay

Re: Would you... (RE changing docs)
No, I would not be ok with that. I had a bit of a complicated delivery with #1 and I want to feel confident about whoever is delivering my child. I changed OBs for #2 b/c we moved. I immediately eliminated any small practice who had cross coverage. I wanted to at least have met the dr who would be doing my surgery (scheduled c-section).
That being said, an OB is an OB and should be able to handle a delivery. So as long as YOU are comfortable, then that's all that matters. If you're second guessing, I'd keep looking.

Yes I am Ok with that. I go to a practice that has doctors and midwives and for every visit I schedule someone new. They are all more than capable of delivering me and I have zero concerns.

Re: Would you... (RE changing docs)
This is happening more often now. Cross-covering. I would personally not be happy with it but I'm not sure if it's enough to bother me that I'd switch Dr's. Would you ever get to meet the other Dr's?

This. My Stony Brook doc was great through pregnancy, ended up going early with different one and she was fantastic.
