Painted a color I don't like

I can't believe this. I spent hours with the paint swatches in my bathroom trying to pick a gray. I don't know what it is with gray but after a while they all look similar. Well I choose a color and today the painter painted it and I don't like it. My husband says its fine. I just feel like we spent so much money in the bathroom that I don't want to walk in there and see a paint color I don't love.

My choices suck it up and leave it for a while and see if grows on me. Its not a horrible gray to me I see more blue than a true gray now.

Pay the painter again to come back and repaint brand new sheet rock and have to cut around everything which is already in the bathroom now.

I have done that and always repainted. If you don't like it, it won't grow on you IMO.

I would give it a couple of weeks and if you still do not like it then have the painter come and repaint. It is not a big deal to have the painter paint with the fixtures intact professional painters are used to it.

Give it some time and see what happens -- you need to see it throughout the day, in differing levels of light, etc. If it doesn't grow on you after 2-3 weeks then re-paint.

Give it some time and see what it looks like throughout the day and evening. Also once you have decorations and towels in there, you may like it more.

If not, well, at least having to de-clutter a bathroom in order to have it ready to be painted is a pretty easy task! Good luck!

If you decide to repaint I'd suggest you buy samples and put them on the walls. Samples look different from swatches.

I would give it some time. See it in different lighting and with all your stuff in it.

I agree with this 100%. I've never painted a room without first painting multiple samples on several walls in the room. The reason for this is that one color can look totally different even on different walls within the same room depending on how the light hits it, etc. We usually pick 5 colors we like and get the small samples and then paint a small square of each on different walls and label them all. Come back and look at those swatches several times throughout the day (in the morning, in the afternoon, and also after it gets dark when its only artificial light in the house). THEN choose your color.

Re: Painted a color I don't like

I certainly learned my lesson. No more painting without testing. I woke up this morning and really hated it in the daylight. I told the painter I didn't love it and kept apologizing. He said it happens often and not to feel bad. So a new color is being painted right now. I tested it and I think it looks good. I'm hoping I'll love it.

I hated the blue after the first coat, had the painter redo it.
Original color was too dark.

Re: Painted a color I don't like

Lol - same thing happened to me in my bathroom! We did timberwolf gray, and it looks blue! I was so unsure, but once I decorated the bathroom with accessories, a shower curtain, pictures, show towels, bath mat, etc., the color really grew on me. It looks like such a peaceful haven with everything coming together.
