What to pack for LABOR bag (not hospital bag)
Making a packing list for me, DH and baby of the hospital bag, and on it I want a separate little bag of stuff for labor (the reg. hospital bag we'll leave in the car until I'm moved to my private room.)
So far I have: o License/ID o Written up birth plan (Vitamin K shot, Hep B shot, etc) o Dr.’s phone numbers for Rifkin’s office o Insurance Card o Mints, Headband, food for Ben, hard lollipops, Bluetooth speaker with aux cable and iPod o iPad and headphones o Phone/Charger (the one that’s extra long if possible, or an extension cord) o Slippers o Robe o Camera/Charger (That isn’t the cell-phone for no-phone-zones)
Anything else?

Chapstick definitely! My lips were so dry! iPad + charger Hair ties
That's pretty much it. They supplied non slip slipper socks. We didn't need anything else.
Definitely no food for DH! If he was hungry, he went and got food from the cafeteria. He didn't want to eat in front of me when I couldn't. I thought that was really nice of him. I couldn't eat for about 36 hours straight. I would have killed him if he ate in front of me!

Actually I lied- I needed toiletries - toothbrush/paste and shampoo/conditioner. I had a 65 hour induction so they were necessities!

What to pack for LABOR bag (not hospital bag)
I'm not planning on having 2 separate bags -- is that bad?!?! I took what is usually my "carry on" travel bag when I fly and that's my bag for my entire hospital stay -- including labor, delivery, and post-birth. I figured if I split things up into 2 bags, I'll wish I had something with me that was in the bag in the car and won't want DH to leave to get it. There are a few things, however, that I am planning on leaving in the car for him to get later, including the Boppy pillow and the blanket my mom crocheted to wrap the baby in for when we leave.

Nope. I had my purse and a carry on size suitcase. We just carried that around and I went back and forth a bunch of times. I went from triage to antepartum to L & D back to antepartum then back to L & D and then to the room after DD was born. DH just dragged it around wherever we went.
After DD was born, DH went home at night and came back the next morning with the boppy and the diaper bag for us to take the stuff from the hospital- diapers, Vaseline, chuck pads, etc.

This is what I brought. I delivered at NUMC with a midwife, so I could eat and move around, so that impacted what I brought.
chapstick snacks (depending on the hospital) robe hairties coconut water soft bras (I wore one the whole time) socks pillow from home rice socks portable speaker birthing ball

It's not bad! I worked in L&D for many years and most patients only bring 1 with all of their stuff in it. I personally have always bought mine in when I went to the hospital (just leave the boppy in the car).

Re: What to pack for LABOR bag (not hospital bag)
Besides my wallet (insurance info, credit card, some cash) & my cell phone (and charger), I needed nothing else for both labor & post delivery.
Hubby brought in music, a camera & the car seat just before I was discharged.
I wasn't hungry either time (even though I labored over 24 hours the first time). No desire for candy. I did get some water and juice at the hospital.
I wasn't walking around at the hospital (both times, I was hurting & got epidurals quickly after arriving).
I prefer a hospital gown to a robe.

What to pack for LABOR bag (not hospital bag)
Only thing I used in labor room was my hair tie (already on my wrist) and my cameras, phones, and chargers. Oh, and my viacord kit. I had lots of stuff packed for my first delivery, didn't use any of it. Dh packed himself some food (cereal) for the second delivery because we went in the middle of the night. My insurance and license are in my wallet, which is always with me.

I would also add that if you're planning on laboring in a shower or tub at all, pack flip flops.

Re: What to pack for LABOR bag (not hospital bag)
I picked up some wisps (mini disposable toothbrush), blotting papers, chap stick, a mini pack of wet ones, and a small brush to freshen up if I felt gross. I knew it could be a while before I showered so it was nice to have backups to feel a bit more "human".

Not trying to change the subject here but I don't remember getting a vitamin K shot or a Hep B shot. I remember getting the pertussis booster but that's it. Are those shots something personal to you or is that standard?
I'm bringing one bag with everything in it. Definitely chapstick, hairties and mints.

Re: What to pack for LABOR bag (not hospital bag)
Besides everything else, I had a piece of paper where I wrote down important phone numbers.
Check to see if your insurance requires pre-authorization for the hospital. I wrote down my pre-authorization # on the piece of paper (in case hospital needed this when I checked in) along with the insurance phone number if I needed to call them. I also wrote down the phone number for my DH's health benefit office to get instructions on how to enroll my DS once he was born. Also my job's Short Term Disability company phone number because I had to call them after I gave birth to have my STD benefits kick in.
Oh, and also my pediatrician's office number because I had to call them once the baby was born to schedule his first well visit.

Can I make a suggestion? Bring one bag. If you end up laboring and having the baby in the middle of the night and you parked in the parking garage, it will be annoying for DH to have to trek out to get it. Not to mention the garage/lot might be closed. I say just take all of it in one bag and that way you know you have everything you need no matter what happens.

Yes will do! If anything I will have a separate part of the bag for actual labor to help him find stuff quicker. Thanks!
