Bike riding
My son is 11 and he has ADHD. He flat out refuses to learn to ride a bike. I mean, to the point that he won't even discuss it and go to his room if I approach the subject. I think he would love it if he really did it, which I know he could.
As a little boy he rode with training wheels. We tried to teach him around 6 or 7, he took a couple of spills (nothing serious) and eventually did it, but not very steadily. Since then, he won't do it again. The more I push the further away he pulls from it.
Anyone ever deal with this? I feel like he's missing out on a big portion of being a kid.

Re: Bike riding
Maybe he just doesn't like it? I only say that because I hate bikes! I didn't learn to ride without training wheels until I was maybe 12 and that's only because my dad forced me. My sister was zooming by me with no training wheels at 5 years old. I am just not into bikes, never have been, never will be. The last time I probably rode one was maybe at 14 (and I could never use the hand brakes-only the foot brakes on the banana bikes).
DH has begged me to go bike riding with him a million times. I'd rather be left standing in traffic. That is torture to me. He says I'm nuts and I must be the only person alive who doesn't like to bike ride. I don't care. I still had a great childhood and don't feel like I missed out at all!
IMO, I wouldn't push it. Offer and if he says no, let it go. If he doesn't come around, maybe he's just not a bike rider like me.

Bike riding
My son is 16 and won't ride a bike.....he rode when he was little with training wheels, but that obviously doesn't fly past a certain age. He can't grasp the balance and pedaling, so I just quit pushing the issue. I bought him an Ezy Roller and he LOVES that thing!!

Re: Bike riding
What about these balance bikes that I've been hearing about? I personally don't know too much except what it looks like on line!

Thank you. I guess I will just drop the issue. I tried the balance bike thing a few years ago and he wasn't into it. That Ezy Roller thing looks really cool, but sounds like its more for smaller kids. At 12, he's over 100 lbs, so I don't think it will really hold up for long.
Thanks again ladies!

Re: Bike riding
My feeling is that we have to work so hard to get DS to do things he HAS to do sometimes, that I am not going to battle over leisure activities. It's not his thing, so I would try to get him excited about other things he is interested in, KWIM?

My son is 16, 5'8 and 130lbs and has no issues with his Ezy Roller. We have the larger version.
I also just bought him a Flicker P5 something (holds up to 220lbs) and he likes that
We leave near a Greenway trail, and took the Flicker out this weekend and it was awesome that he was able to keep up with the bike riders in our group

Do you have a link for that one BargainMama? I can't seem to find it online. I was ready reviews of the Ezy Roller and it said that the wheels don't hold up well for bigger kids.
