typical schedule for OB visits

It's been 4 or 5 years since I've gone through this with DD. What's a typical schedule for OB visits & sonos?

I keep assuming it's:
8wk (initial sono)
12wk (NT Scan)
20wk (anatomy scan)
26wk (glucose test)
Then every week in 3rd tri

But do you really go that long between visits?? My 12 week is in a couple days. Will I really not go back for another two months? Or am I missing one in between?

typical schedule for OB visits

Its every 4 weeks for HB and urine. The tests above are sometimes at completely separate appts. My Dr doesn't do major sonos in house so it would be separate appts.

Re: typical schedule for OB visits

For me it was appointments every 4 weeks (starting 8 weeks) until I hit 32 weeks. Then it goes every 2 weeks until 36 weeks, then weekly until delivery...

My OB does sonos sometimes and other times will use doppler. Each visit is BP/weight/urine.

For big sonos I had to go to NRAD (12 and 20 week).

ETA I went to outside labs for blood tests I needed to get done (glucose and other ny state required blood tests). I rather go to the lab TBH because they are terrible at drawing my blood at the OB's office.

typical schedule for OB visits

I couldn't tell you bc I go all the time lol. So far it's been:

10wk- first appt.
12wk- NT
16wk- early anatomy scan
20wk- anatomy scan
22wk- complete anatomy scan (sono only)
24wk- dr visit (results of glucose, bp, urine check)
26wk- growth sono

I have a dr visit only scheduled for 28wks and another growth sono scheduled for 30wks.

Monthly check ups then every other week check ups late 3rd trimester and then weekly checks starting at 36 weeks. so essentially check ups on weeks 8 (first appointment- internal sono), 12 (NT Scan/ ultrasound), 16, 20 (anatomy scan- ultrasound), 24, 28 (glucose test), 32, 34, 36, 37, 38, 39, 40.

ETA: The weeks without an utlrasound were always just weight/ BP/ doppler and time for questions. There were sporadic tests thrown in that i can't remember exact weeks for. I believe they did HIV testing at 12 and 28 weeks. They did TDAP at 28 weeks.

Re: typical schedule for OB visits

8 weeks for initial appointment. Then every 4 weeks with the following important scans/tests.

12 weeks nt scan
16 weeks quad screening
20 week anatomy scan
24-28 weeks glucose
32 weeks growth scan

Then at 32 weeks it goes to every 2 weeks
36 weeks goes to every week.

I guess every doctor is different. My OB sees me every 3 weeks starting around 7 weeks and then I see the sono tech at 12 and 20 weeks for the NT and anatomy scans. At some point in the 3rd trimester I go every 2 weeks and then every week at 36 weeks.

Mine are every 4 weeks until 3rd trimester. NT and Anatomy scan are done at the hospital, so separate appointments.

Same for my practice. I just had my 12 week sono and go back in 3 weeks, then 3-4 weeks after that for Level 2 sono.

Re: typical schedule for OB visits

ok, thank you! I guess it just depends on the OB. I'll find out what this one does when I go this week. I had my initial sono at 6wks, then 8wks. I had hoped to go back at 10wks only because waiting a whole month is torture. lol. But didn't happen. I'm going to be out of state while I'm 20wks so I really hope we can do the anatomy scan beforehand (at 18wks). Maybe that will be my next visit. Seems daunting to wait that long during this time frame where I still can't feel baby moving yet.

You're missing the 16 week blood test.

Re: typical schedule for OB visits

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but once you test positive at home, from that point, when is your first appointment generally? Not until 8 weeks!?! (thinking ahead - not even close to this point yet)

Yes. Typically most OB's don't want to see you until 8wks. However, I've had issues in the past so I was monitored more than that. From the day of BFP I was going every 48 hrs for bloodwork and then by 6wks I had my first sono, then another at 8wks, and my 12wk one is tomorrow.

Interesting! I think I would drive myself crazy with paranoia not knowing if everything is ok. I'm not really using any of the TTC tools, like an OPK, so I won't really be able to pin point a date. I hope when the time comes they'll take me sooner!

I had a 16w appt for a quad screening with Hailey

Generally OBs like to see you close to 8wks but I always push for them to see me sooner because I was so paranoid since I've had miscarriages in the past.

With #1, I had my first appt at 7w1d only because I have longer cycles and while I knew when we conceived, they went by my LMP so they had me measuring over 8 weeks.

With #2, I couldn't get a Friday appt until 10 weeks.

Yup! It's awful waiting so long. They'll go by the date of your last period. So 8wks from last period would be more like having to wait about 4 weeks after your BFP (not a full 2 months). It's still a difficult wait though. I was thrilled when I was able to get the bloodwork and watch the numbers go up. But the reason they don't normally like to see you for a sono too early is because the HB can be difficult to detect when baby is so tiny. And that can cause unnecessary alarm. Luckily we DID see and hear a strong HB at my 6wk though, but I think it's impossible before that.

Sono, urine, bp, and then script to go to a lab for bloodwork.

My OB schedules the first appt between 6 and 7 weeks. I just went last week at 6w 2d. He does a sono at that appt and then you go back in 3 weeks for bloodwork and another sono. You typically can't see a HB before 6 weeks so that's why they make you wait.
