MRI and sedation in a young child
my 5 year old needs an MRI and they said they will need to sedate her. Has anyone had their child also sedated for one? If you can tell me what it was like (you can PM if you are more comfortable). Thanks!

MRI and sedation in a young child
My son was sedated at 6m old for an MRI. They put a numbing cream on his hand so that he didn't feel anything when they put in the drip. We were with him up until he fell asleep and were with him when he woke up. He was only alone when he got the MRI but in his head we were there the whole time. He woke up sleepy but just fine. We left about 15 mins after he woke. He had to nurse and we were released. It's definitely scary for parents.

Re: MRI and sedation in a young child
thank you!! yes I am def nervous :( but it needs to be done as she will hate the loud noise and definitely wont stay still for the MRI without the sedation.

Re: MRI and sedation in a young child
My daughter was sedated at 20 months. It was definitley worse on me than her. The office was great. They told me everything they were going to do beforehand and what to expect. They told me to hug her tightly and they would give her the medication and to be lrapared her eyes would roll back into her head. She was out instantly. They gave me earplugs so I was able to stay in the room the whole time with her. It was difficult to watch. Hen it was over they had me come over to her right away and she was groggy for a few minutes but came out of it fairly quickly. My daughter actually needed an EEG direct,y after that. Thinking of you. I know it will be harder for your than for your child.
