appropriate age for regular strollers
At what age do babies generally move from attaching infant carrier into stroller to just sitting in stroller on their own?
I have one from DD#1, but may just want to get something new. If so, I'm considering JUST getting a car seat, not a stroller combo because baby is due in Dec. I can't see many walks at all for the first few months since it'll be too cold, and then even after, I'd probably just use a bijorn type carrier for a good while like I did with DD. Does it seem unwise to not get the combo though like I had for DD? (She was born in March, so we did go for lots of walks - mostly with bijorn though we did attach carseat to stroller once in a while - but I can't remember when she was able to sit in stroller on her own.)

Ok, thanks. I feel like DD was around that too, but can't really be sure since it was 4yrs ago and my memory is shot lately. lol. So then a combo definitely wouldn't be worth it in that case.

I used the snap and go with the infant carrier until DD was close to 11 months. Then we switched her to a convertible car seat and an umbrella stroller.

Same but DS was 8 months when we moved him out of the infant carrier.

DS was about 5 months when I started using the stroller alone, I would have started sooner, but DH was a nervous ninny. Really, you would think he was the first time mommy and not me!

I used from our first walk. The seat on my stroller reclines all the way back and I used the infant insert. I never like going for walks with DS in the infant seat. He was a summer baby.

Re: appropriate age for regular strollers
We put her in a regular stroller for the first time a few weeks ago (she will be 4m in a couple of days). I wear her most of the time though - i find it a lot easier especially with the second child! The ergo is a great choice if you do want to go that route - it's super comfortable (I also had a bjorn with my first and found it uncomfortable after a short period of time).

I would say about 6-7 months i began using the stroller exclusively without the baby bucket as we called it. My DD was a big girl and hated being confined to the bucket.

Re: appropriate age for regular strollers
I'd recommend making sure you get one that has a lot of support for an infant. I had the britax b-agile, and I could not use it as just a stroller until dd was about a year old because she just "flopped" otherwise. I had to go out and buy a more traditional stroller that had more side wings that she could lean against. I always feel terrible when I see infants in big strollers that don't have support and they are just flopping to one side.
I even tried an insert, but that was not quite enough.

Re: appropriate age for regular strollers
I think we used the snap n go until DS was about 10 months old, but that was just to get from the car to our apt without waking him. With him, I had him in a regular stroller around 3 or 4 months b/c it started to get too hot out for the car seat.
With DD, I have had her in the regular stroller since birth, basically. I bought an infant insert to give her head support. But, I now have two kids and need her in the double stroller so I can get out of the house for walks with both children.
I also wanted to add that just b/c you're having a winter baby doesn't mean you won't go for walks. DS was born in January and I had him out all winter for walks. Sometimes they were quick, just around the block, but to keep my sanity, I had to get out. Also, I'd consider walking the mall or other stores just to get out of the house.
