So I've posted our current situation quite a few times. DH was laid off from his job, and I started a new one after leaving substitute teaching for six years that I am not feeling is a great fit. We decided that if we are going to relocate, now is good of a time as any. We are starting to look at Connecticut. I lived there for a semester in college and I am certified to teach there. We would search for jobs before moving, but I'm wondering if anyone is familiar with the state, any town recommendations (DH would prefer to be near a city, so I guess that would be a commutable distance to New Haven and Stamford). I'm sure Fairfield County would be too expensive. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

Try Trumble, Easton, and believe it or not some areas in Fairfield are affordable. Also Weston is quite nice. Even Wilton. Norwalk and Darien also have some affordable places. I lived there for 4 years and loved it. I would move back in a heart beat if DH would. I truly love it in ct

Re: Connecticut
Would you DH be open to Danbury? I am in NY but that's our nearest 'metro' area which has most of the shopping, etc. There are some nice nearby towns which are very nice and cheaper than LI- New Fairfield, New Milford, Bethel, Brookfield, to name a few.

Is Danbury a commutable distance to Poughkeepsie? Just trying to figure out some larger areas where jobs might be for him.

Yes- not super close but doable. White Plains too- I know a lot of people who work in WP, probably 35-40 minutes too. I am not sure what line of work your DH is in but there are quite a few big companies in the area- IBM, Pitney Bowes, Scholastic, Ethan Allen HQ, Boehringer Inglehiem and a few other pharm companies.

Those are the towns we looked in as well, but DH refused to do the commute (it is rough). Those areas are beautiful though and I would have preferred to buy there!
