S/O of braces: anyone told their child WON'T need braces?

When I took my little ones to the dentist, they said that my one child probably won't need braces because he has tons of room and that my other child will need braces for sure and that he has a crowded mouth. (I had the same issue myself).

They are aways off from braces but did anyone else have this experience?

what ended up happening?

My DS is ten and from his first visit, they said he probably wouldn't but they would have to wait until all his adult teeth were in. When he was nine, all his adult teeth came in and so far, so good. They're still telling us he should not need them because his bite is good, his teeth are straight and they are not crowded. Hopefully this does not change as he grows.

thanks for the info! it's so strange how they can even predict this - but i guess they know what they are doing Chat Icon

i had such a hell of a time with braces - i had to have 4 adult teeth out, a palate expander, 4 years of braces..ugh. I don't want them to have to go through all of that.

I know what you mean. Every time we bring DS, I keep hoping they still tell us the same thing. I feel more confident now that all his adult teeth are in because they have a better sense of the situation. But yes, they could tell from very early on - hope it works out for you!

At one of DS' dental appointments, they did a full mouth x ray - the dentist said he most likely would not need braces, based on the spacing of the teeth that are in and the ones left to come in - if everything comes in straight (as others have previously), he would not need braces.

He turned 8 in May (so he was either 7 1/2 or just about to turn 8)

Yes dentist said my 6 yo will need braces, my 5 yo will not. Their jaw lines are completely different so it makes sense.
