Sleep Training
Talk to me about Sleep Training Methods.
What is the method? How old was LO when you did it? How long did it take?

Re: Sleep Training
1 word!
STINKS its so hard and frustrating
We did the Cry it out several times. Put him into bed at 7:30 and hope for the best. it honestly didnt work until he was 1 year. He constantly woke up all night until he was 1 year- Now he goes to bed at 7:30 and up at 6:15 AM

I can't afford to hire someone
DS is only 4 months old, so it's not something I think I am going to attempt now. But I have a feeling I am going to have to do it in the future.

I hear ya. What's going on? Do you have a white noise machine? The marpac dohm one is the best.
If he's up crying go in every 5 minutes and ssshhhh and rub his belly or stroke his hair. Don't pick him up. No lights.

We did Sleep Sense at 4.5 months. He learned how to self soothe and put himself to bed after 3-4 nights.

He is sleeping in the Rock and Play next to my bed because he wakes up to eat - a lot. Last week was terrible because he was up every 2 to 2 1/2 hours. Last night he ate at 9pm then 1am then at 2:15am woke up crying and there was no shhhing him. So I put him in bed with me and we slept like that until 5am when he was screaming for food.
I need to transition him to his crib because I have to break the rocking to sleep. But having him next me is so convenient because he eats so many times at night.
When he wakes up to eat - his eyes aren't open. I just roll over and give him a bottle. For the most part, his eyes stay closed and he falls back asleep towards the end of the bottle.
The only time I pick him up is if he wakes up crying shortly after a bottle. That's when I'll either pick him up and change his diaper or pick him and put him in bed with me.
I don't like having him in bed with me because I'm still not getting a deep sleep but at least I am resting.

4 month growth spurt?
I have no idea. Since he was born, he would wake up every 3-4 hours at night to eat. Last week was crazy with every 2 to 2 1/2.

ugh sorry.. I know our LO's are a few days apart. My DD is still getting up 2x a night.. so like 12 and 3, or 1 and 4... I am holding out hope that when she starts solids she will feel more satisfied and give me better stretches at night.

The ped had me start giving him Rice cereal at night in the hopes that it would help to satisfy him because when I told her that he is drinking 8 bottles in a 24 hour period she was kinda shocked.
I just started the cereal on Friday, so I am hoping that it helps. But so far I don't see any improvement.
What time are you putting your DD down and when is that last bottle before you put her down?

Re: Sleep Training
Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child is a fantastic book. It helped me understand sleep and gave me tons of practical strategies. It's also research based....

I usually put her down around 9 and feed her right before so I guess you could say she's up every 3 hours. She probably goes through one of those quarts of alimentum in a 24 hour period or just about. I have her well visit next week so I'll probably get the go ahead to start cereal (although I went straight to oatmeal with my ds so I'll probably do the same for dd). I hope it gets better for you, I know how exhausting it is. I look forward to the nights my DH has off from work so he can at least take a feeding at night!

Sleep Training
Months 4-8 was the worst my children slept. Between whatever it is with the development and then teething and sometimes colds/sickness it was the absolute worst months of sleep.

The Baby Sleep Solution by Suzy Giordano helped me so much. Hopefully the rice in the bottle will help keep the baby full longer. Good Luck!
