Birth Certificate/SS card?
Just wondering how long it took to get your newborn's birth certificate and SS card? DD is a month old and still nothing.
I need to get her added to my insurance and the 30 days is already up. I called the hospital birth certificate dept. and just got a recording to call the town of N. Hempstead. Anyone know if these are the correct channels to go through?
Thanks

Birth Certificate/SS card?
For both of my boys, it was about 4 weeks for the BC - I had to go to the town and pick it up.
For DS 1, it was about 3 mos for the SS card (the hospital forgot to file for it since he was born close to the holidays and people were out of the office - they tried to blame it on SS but, when I went to SS, they showed me all of the documentation), for DS 2 it was about 3 -4 weeks.

Re: Birth Certificate/SS card?
The birth certificate arrived at around 6 weeks but the ss card took longer, like 2 months! The hospital and pediatrician kept calling me about payments but I kept telling them that because I didn't receive those documents yet, I couldn't add him to my insurance. Once I received everything, I was able to add him quickly and they retro pay everything.
Since it's only been 4 months for u, I'd def just wait a little more.

Re: Birth Certificate/SS card?
I had DD on 11/20/15 and I received the SS card 2 weeks ago and her birth certificate last Friday. When I called they stated they were backed up and the holidays delayed the processing.

They will add them to the insurance without the SSN, you will just have to supply everything when you get it. You HAVE to add them before the 30 days with or without it. Its normal not to have everything in time. After 30 days, you cannot add them.

So this almost gave me a heart attack! I called my mom who is a biller at a peds office and she said if this were the case the doctor she works for would be living on the streets. Apparently, TONS of parents don't have their kids added within 30 days, even if they do have the birth certificate. The insurance companies can't say "sorry, you're SOL." She said she's never seen a case where it wasn't retroactive- could take months for the doctor to get paid, but eventually they do.
